How much of a chance would you give Valuev against Zhang

I understand people who are sceptical about Zhang. He has slow feet and awful stamina. But he is a very competent boxer.

Valuev was not a competent boxer. He was awful skillwise. If he was like 6'3'', and had mediocre chin, with the same speed and 'skills' he had, he'd never be a top-200 even in his era. He'd have more losses than wins probably. His skills were his size and chin, that's it.

Go and watch 3-0 completely unexperienced skinny and small HW Taras Bidenko vs 'prime' Valuev who had 20+ fights. Tell me that Valuev was competent boxer after that

 

Zhang now would stop any version of him, he’s big enough to put him on the backfoot, which not many could.

 

Well agree to disagree, I watched it again yesterday and Chagaev was on backfoot all night doing great work mind you but Valuev was sending a lot back. So it wasn't this domination of Valuev that people are saying.... the first two score cards had it very close.

I think a lot of tall fighters can look bad against significantly shorter opponents, especially when the shorter guy has much more skill and experience.

 

Valuev was beaten easily by Haye, he didn`t land a punch all fight, Wilder had faster hands than Valuev and far more power, Fury would have jabbed Valuev`s ears off as would Usyk have.

 

Well it's a shame we can't prove it now ain't it hence why I dislike these matchups!

 

Sorry but I didn`t see the tanet in Valuev at all, that`s just my personal opion, that whole era was crap, and the heavyweight division was awful back then.

 

I favor champions over contender who have no systemic barriers.

I mean Langford, okay, not a champ, technically, but I treat him like one. Zhang .... has no reason to be compared to a champion. Dude's not even Povetkin level, gtfo.

Valuev was durable, strong, and could go 12 rounds. Zhang has basically gassed out three times in his limited career.

 

Valuev couldn`t match Zhang`s kind of power.

 

If Zhang tired out, Valuev would sweep the last six rounds.

 

He wouldn't necessarily need to...

Valuev had an excellent chin - he may have been hittable, but he could take plenty.

His skills are being underrated here too...

Valuev got outpointed by Haye (and realistically ancient Headbuttfield, though not officially) when he was past his best - and Chagaev when he wasn't.

Zhang went 50/50 on points with massively overhyped Hrgovic, a lesser fighter than anyone Valuev lost to by a distance.... And that's before we get to managing to draw with Jerry Forrest.


Valuev was lumbering and limited... But recency bias appears strong here IMHO - I don't think there's any chance in hell Zhang's rated nearly this highly in 5-10 years time.

 

No Valuev was too slow and plodding.

 

Hrg`s handspeed was far quicker than Valuev`s.
