Duran vs Barkly

It's an amazing fight, the size difference was stunning....one of my all time favorites

 

Iran Barkley, oooh there's a top ranker. I think |Duran's most credible performance at higher weight than lightweight was his losing effort against Hagler. He fought a smart fight, showing his boxing skill by fighting from the outside. Another great fight who did the same was Aaron Pryor against Alexis Arguello. Prior normally mauled his victims just because he could, but he played it safe against Alexis Arguello, boxingf him from the outside, meanwhile Arguello just didn't have the power to hurt him.

 

Duran had quite a few " credible " performances above lightweight.
Palomino? Cuevas? Moore ? And his greatest win of his career Leonard in Montreal.
I don't know how you missed all of Durans history between DeJesus and Hagler, but I will suggest you check those fights out, and others during that period.
Hell , Duran became legendary from the Leonard fight alone..

Iran Barkley was a force at that time for sure. He is the only fighter to beat Thomas Hearns twice once by ko.

Aaron Pryor? The guy was juiced on the black bottle in his fights with Arguello, the man was a disgrace.

I watched all of Duran's fights, starting with Palomino.

Half-blind 7-0 Moore? Yeah, Duran fought like a man posessed and still couldn't put him down. Don't recall him fighting Cuevas, but his biggest fight was getting destroyed by Hearns, who also destroyed Duran. Benitez outclassed Duran, and Duran Leonard 1 was a bad decision, according to Nate Fleischer and 100+ sportswriters in an unpublished (LOL) sportswriters poll.

Not one title defense above lightweight. His record is no match for a guy like Arguello, but I grant you you might have a case ffor the "in
tangibles".

As for Prior being juiced, there was no evidence, just a vague quote from Pryot's trainer about a special mix., that was caught on a ringside mic. Arguello himself said he didn't put any stock in that claim, in joint television interview he did with Pryor.

Half blind seven wins only Moore who Duran " couldn't put down". (Your words) is so wrong in so many area's its simply astounding you were to lazy to at the least watch the HIGHLIGHTS of that fight to get your facts straight before you posted that nonsense..
Not knowing Duran fought Cuevas and yet you wrote you saw all his fights after Palomino suggest you're a liar. Because either you saw all his fights after the Palomino fight or you didn't.
It's that simple. The Cuevas fight was well after the Palomino fight.
Leonard is my favorite fighter. I have no problem saying or writing Duran beat him in Montreal ( Because he did.) It was Duran at his absolute best and no welterweight in history beat him that night in my opinion ( That includes R Robinson)

You wrote Nat Fleicher and 100 other "sports writers " said it was a bad decision in a " unpublished " poll?( Duran vs Leonard #1) That makes as much sense as me claiming I flew a P-51 Mustang in World War 2 but I'm only 60 yrs.

Damn near every sportswriter I've read and poster on this site rarely agree on anything. But almost all agree Leonard lost to Duran in Montreal.
But you and I do agree on one thing. So that's something.
I don't buy into the magic bottle theories of the Pryor haters on this site.
So that is something we agree on.....

 

Nat Fleischer died in 1972 so I'm not sure how he had an opinion of the Leonard-Duran fight in 1980

 

Brilliant fight. Was great to see Duran come back

 

Duran did put Moore down.

Duran fought Cuevas 4 years after he fought Palomino, post which you claim to have seen "all of" Duran's fights .

 

Duran beat the brakes off Leonard in the first fight and Leonard knew it when they were reading off the decision it was all over his face.

Yes no title defenses above lightweight is correct but in fairness he had already been there and done that and the appeal of the big pay days would be hard for anyone to resist.

Yeah Pryor was juiced other Panama Lewis fighters have attested to it although Pryor himself never admitted it why would he? It puts a big stain on his biggest wins. Arguello was a nice guy, too nice and simply went with what everyone else said.
