At cruiser weight Holyfield was about the same weight as Patterson. Who do you think would win? I think Patterson was probably to good for Holyfield.
At crusierweight Holyfield was about the same size as Patterson. Who do you think would win? I think Floyd Patterson might be to good for Holyfield.
Holyfield still ices Patterson. It might be competetive for the first half of the fight, but Holyfield had a lethal combination of speed & power, that I just don't see Patterson avoiding for the full duration of the fight. Also is this 12 or 15 rounds? I think Holyfield wins regardless, but I believe Floyd would have better chances of surviving a middle-late round onslaught by Holyfield an edge a decision in a 12 rounder.
I guess you can have a 15 round and a 12 round opinion. You talk about Holyfields speed and power but Patterson was faster and with more power than cruiserweight Holyfield.
I don’t know. Johansson was under 200 lbs and with maybe 19 pro fights when he iced Patterson. The debuting Pete Rademacher had him down. Hard to say for me.
Patterson also had power and speed. At heavyweight, I would pick Holyfield. With him at cruiser? Pick ‘em fight.
Speed & power is likely close, even though I'd still give Holyfield the edge in power. But the difference is that Holyfield was much more resilient than Patterson, Holyfield could survive an offensive onslaught or two from Patterson, where I don't see Patterson being able to recover that well from flush shots from Holyfield.
The biggest factor in this matchup is one man was made of Iron and had a chin that held up for nearly his entire 30 year pro career. Floyd, for all of his athletic ability and talent could be hurt and often was. Holyfield stops him in the mid rounds.
Holyfield wins. KO. He beat the better version of Patterson in Tyson. Can’t c him losing to Floyd. Although stranger things have happened
Cruiser Holyfield was great but lacked some experience. He’s giving up speed & power both here, has no clear edge in endurance or heart, though will certainly have an edge in durability. Holyfield was one of those fighters who struck me as a high-level jack of all trades, master of none (if you don’t consider heart & whiskers as trades). While he does little great, he does almost nothing poorly. Great fight, I slightly favour Holyfield. Those expecting him to outclass Patterson easily would be shocked.
Holyfield was much better at CW than HW and was bigger but at HW Floyd had more power and was not purely a point fighter while Holyfield was. Holyfield stopped Moorer after 5 knockdowns and a gassing Tyson but unless he was beating someone up(like Buster Douglas) and/or they were tiring badly he wasn't really a threat to get HWs out of there and don't think he'd able to impose that size difference on Floyd. At HW Holyfield was generally trying to win the decision and while he might get his usual 4 or 5 rounds I'm picking Patterson. I get the logic behind Holyfield beating Floyd because he beat Tyson and they are both hide and seekers but Floyd was much better prepared for a long battle than Tyson was.
I can't call this one. At heavyweight, I'd pick Holyfield but at CW, either Patterson by decision, probably split or Holyfield via late round TKO.
