    Dec 2009

DANNY Green's camp has blasted Roy Jones Jr's attempt to overturn the result of their Sydney showdown as a "cheap shot from a steroids cheat".

Jones' management team has sent a letter to the NSW Combat Sports Authority and the International Boxing Organisation requesting Jones' 122-sec KO loss on December 2 be overturned to a disqualification victory.

Square Ring Promotions claim a combination of violations regarding hand wraps meant that Green's bandaging hardened under his gloves and his fists became "a very dangerous weapon".

The newly formed Combat Sports Authority could not be contacted yesterday, but it is understood the panel will look into Jones' grievances.

Green's manager, Justin Manolikos, was fuming at the development, but was confident the controversy would not harm Green's reputation or his potential pulling power in the lucrative US market.

"He's had his hands wrapped the same way for however many years, including in the USA under their jurisdiction," an upset Manolikos said.

"He boxed there in August and there wasn't any complaints there in August.

"Coming from a steroids cheat, it's a bit of a cheap shot."

Jones was at the centre of a drugs furore in 2000 when he tested positive to anabolic steroids.

Jones was able to keep his titles and was not fined or suspended for the positive test.

Interesting and informed thread. I wonder if their were any testing policies in the Alito f the states and cities where Roy fought, for such a top name in the sport he sure fought a large portion of his career in some back water towns. Not just his hometown of Pensacola.

    Straight from the horses' mouth.

I remember his flashy/dancing entrances, calling himself "Mr Invincible", his boastings about "In a Roy Jones fight, i hit you and you don't hit me back" , and see now how he's become a punching bag.

When you do steroids, it's not just your head inside the ring that's affected. Your chances of money squandering get multiplied many folds.

Hard to feel sorry for him, really, considering the potential physical harm he inflicted on others through cheating and him not giving a damn.

Did the situation about PEDs tests change compared to back in the day and did they get more strict or nah?

I always bring this up in arguments. RJJ did as well as he did due to blistering speed and power - things that PEDs specifically benefit.

Not convinced RJJ was clean or supreme (when/if clean) as evident by his ginormous falloff when his physicsl attributes slipped

I would bet most of top tier boxers are likely on something, there’s hardly any testing in Boxing even now.

    ‘Got any excuses tonight Roy?’

Tarver punched the drugs out of his system

It is still a joke. Cause there is no consequence if caught. If you are a big enough name you get a slap on the wrist. Like. 6 months ban or your excuse of why you failed accepted and nothing happens. Most barely fight twice a year so 6 months does nothing. Garcia got a 1 year ban , which some are saying as harsh. The hell it is. He made millions and gets a 1 year excuse to not box. This isnt the first time Garcia went a year away from boxing.

So , ped testing is just a check box. It isnt really doing much other that to say we are testing.

I have always loved boxing from a young age but when I was younger even when I first started posting here I was a big fan of these US fighters like Roy Jones, Shane Mosely, Fernando Vargas, James Toney and even Floyd Mayweather but after being on here for a long time and learning more about the history and corruption of the sport I found out that they are dirty. All of them apart from Mayweather have been caught red handed for juicing, Floyd was caught with the illegal IV but that has been swept under the rug.
It has made me respect my countryman in Australia who have done it the hard way even more.

Roy would've been able to beat 2 Floyd Mayweather Jrs in the same night. He was that good.

In fairness, Floyd - to my knowledge - did not use PEDs. He just rehydrated illegally which doesnt bother me nearly as much as someone outright using PEDs
