What did Benavídez need to avoid being criticized in his fight with Gvozdyk?

I saw the fight a moment ago.. and it seemed to me an excellent performance by Benavidez.. he lacked punching power.. but he landed solid punches.. and he was very good at closing the distance.. he improved technically.. and with respect to Gvozdyk.. he is an excellent fighter.. he is not in his prime.. but he is very technical.. explosive.. and has a lot of punching power.. to me the fight in general seemed good.. and you have to appreciate Benavidez for trying to be a perfectionist.. that will take him far

I don't think there was much he could avoid he did his best and won the fight convincingly he just proved what a lot of us already thought and that is he isn't as powerful when he fights somebody closer to his own size.

The fight was 2 different fights IMO................early and late. Benavidez won round upon round early then hit a wall that he never really recovered from.

I had Gvodzyk winning the last 5 rounds straight.

Pre-Beterbiev Gvodzyk would've spoiled the LHW coming out party for David, I have no doubt. Now Gvodzyk is class so that doesn't mean David can't be successful, he ain't beating Bivol though or Beterbiev (unless he finally ages).

Buatsi and Callum are there, I can see Benavidez having trouble with both. Honestly everyone at LHW that ranks, his size/strength advantage may be gone, LHW are some monstrous guys

He needed to show that he was a CLEAR level above a current faded, Grade D/C Gvozdyk

Benavidez just showed hes a good boxer and a terrific weight bully. Still a champion caliner guy but far from the world beater some on here were hyping him as.

Benavidez v Canelo is no foregone conclusion either, honestly

He needed to display a bit more pop in his punches. But that's hard to do without actually settling into the division and physically bulking up a bit. He looked undersized and very flabby at the weight.

David was underwhelming in the late rounds. Against a past his prime 37 year Gvo he did not look as good as he needed to to actually be a threat for the Biv/Biev. He should have been a lot better in those late rounds

It was his first fight at 175. I wouldn't call it criticize. To me what people are saying are honest assessment. He lacked power and faded in the later rnds.

Come on dude he fought a guy who hasn’t fought at the top level in 5 years…. And two of Gvozdyks fights in the last year were scheduled for 6 and 8 rounds………

Im not saying he deserves criticism for the performance, rather he just doesn’t deserve much of anything for it, positive or negative….

    Stopping Gvozdyk would have helped

He underperformed expectations by a wide margin.

Knock Gvozdyk out and do so in dominant fashion, namely don't lose the last four rounds.

    Yep.

straight up fix. This forum is still in denial that fights can be staged.

Gvodzyk was “sparring” partner for Canelo, this speaks for itself

Apparently he did to good. Berlanga is getting the Canelo fight.
