Skye Nicolson telling it like it is. If she's sparred & fought both, she's much better placed to comment objectively on the situation than those who have been.

We could really have used Skye in this tournament. Definite gold medal material although the way amateur boxing officials have treated our fighters, there would have been no guarantees.

Bronze medal (at least) to Australia in the Men's Featherweight - Charlie Senior. Close fight, could quite reasonably have gone the other way, but about time something went ours. If Caitlin Parker wins her fight tomorrow night, it will be the first time we've won more than one medal in boxing at the Olympics. Edit - We won two bronzes at the Rome Olympics in 1960.

Another day, another Bronze medal (at least) for Australia. Excellent performance from Caitlin Parker. She won that fight convincingly (4-1 SD that should have been a UD). The opponent was well credentialed if not a bit cumbersome (reigning world champ in a higher weight division that isn't in the Olympics).

I've seen a lot of the Women's Middleweight division this year & I reckon Parker's form is as good, or better, than any of them. The Canadian who was heavily favoured to win the division went out in the first round.

It's going to be a big Friday morning (9/8):

5:30am AEST Charlie Senior v Uzbekistan (Men's Featherweight Semi Final)
6:02am AEST Caitlin Parker v China (Women's Middleweight Semi Final)

Loved Caitlin's interview afterwards. She literally snatched the microphone and spoke with so much passion and enthusiasm it sounded like she was ready to go again, there and then.

    WAR Caitlin!

One of those Olympic moments. Years of sacrifice paying off.

Scored this exactly the same - how anyone could score the first round to Jalolov is beyond me. That and progressive scoring changed the fight from that point but yeah I had the first two for Teremoana

This is what a lot of people don't recognise. If the first round is scored to Teremoana (which it should have been), it's a different fight from that point on. Jalolov has to engage which gives Teremoana a better chance to land the heavy artillery. Only one judge didn't do us dirty in the first round & he was from Argentina. I'm not upset with him for giving the second to Jalolov b/c it was genuinely close. The judges from Estonia & Hungary didn't give us a single round. The same judge from Estonia also scored against Caitlin Parker last night.

A further thought on Teremoana, just to keep it real. I said in my original post that Teremoana couldn't win on points after the way the first round was scored. That wasn't correct b/c two of the four judges who scored the first round to Jalolov came back to Teremoana in the second. That means the fight was even on three scorecards going into the final round. Good amateur judges will often go a round apiece in the first two & leave it up to which fighter brings it home hard in the third. Despite what Teremoana himself claimed after the fight, he didn't win the third round.

Teremoana's conditioning has certainly improved from the World Championships last year when he could only really apply semi-effective pressure in the first. He didn't run out of petrol until the last round this time. The fact that most of his lead-up fights ended early didn't help in that regard. More competition experience against top level amateur opponents would benefit him. He's never faced Nelvie Tiafack (the German who I reckon is a chance to knock off Jalolov in the semi-final on Thursday) or the Spaniard who has made the other semi-final. In fact, he hasn't faced the Brit (Delicious Orie) or the American (Joshua Edwards) in competition either (although I think he has sparred with them).

Listened to Teremoana being interviewed pre-Games and he is a very different cat indeed and it wouldn't surprise me what he does. Even retirement is probably a possibility.

Tim is with PBC, not the promoters who are cosy with Turki. The way ahead for him is a tune-up in September with the best opponent they can find followed by an IBF title shot. The US-based Russian IBF champ is promoted by Main Events who do business with PBC. When Timmy fights, people get paid so he should be fine.

Makes sense! I know Jennings is a respected business professional and wouldn't upset any arrangements already in place.

Tims recognition from Turki counts for something as well. Boosts his value I bet

Canelo appears to be on the outs with Turki as well, so Tim is in good company.
