“A boxing match is like a cowboy movie. There's got to be good guys and there's got to be bad guys. And that's what people pay for - to see the bad guys get beat.”- Sonny Liston “While I m in the dressing room five minutes before I come out, Im breaking my gloves down, I m pushing the leather to the back of my gloves, so my knuckle could pierce through. When I come out I have supreme confidence. Im scared to death. I mafraid. I m afraid of everything. Im afraid of losing. Im afraid of being humiliated. But Im confident.”- Mike Tyson “Boxing is like jazz. The better it is, the less people appreciate it.”- George Foreman “Ali even told me in the ring, 'You can't beat me - I'm your Lord.' I just told him, 'Lord, you're in the wrong place tonight.”- Joe Frazier “Once that bell rings you’re on your own. It’s just you and the other guy…”- Joe Louis “A champion is someone who gets up when he can't.”- Jack Dempsey got any quotes you love from boxing greats?
"I didn’t want to hurt nobody, just smack ‘em around and let ‘em know who’s boss" - Maxie Rosenbloom I was also surprised to learn the commonly quoted "The bigger they are the harder they fall" and "You can run but you can't hide" came from Fitzsimmons and Louis respectively.
John L. Sullivan after being presented with National Police Gazette journalist, and rival, Richard Kyle Fox’s championship belt when he beat Kilrain: “I wouldn't put Fox's belt around the neck of a goddamn dog!“

A lifting blow drives the intestines up against the heart, causing a weakening shock" - Benny Leonard ''PIPINO CUEVAS CAN SUCK MY DICK'' - Roberto Duran

IMHO nothing tops this no BS "life is difficult" quote from the astute Mike Tyson: "Everybody's got a plan until they get punched in the mouth." THAT, my friends, is one of life's ultimate truths!!
Hi Buddy. The first one is for you : Incredulous reporters telling Liston that Patterson wanted a return came the reply " who can tell a bird, it can't fly " " Be careful Jack, that frenchman has dynamite in his right hand " Kearns. Muhammad Ali Quotes: "If you wanna lose your money, be a fool a bet on Sonny". "I done drowned a drink of water and killed a dead tree, don't mess with Muhammad Ali". "He who isn't courageous will accomplish nothing in life". "I know you got him. I know you got him picked, but the man's in trouble. I'll show you how great I am!". (Regarding his upcoming fight with George Foreman).
"To me, boxing is like a ballet, except there's no music, no choreography, and the dancers hit each other."
Tyson always gets credited with that quote, but it’s been around a lot longer. Bruce “The Mouse” Strauss said the same thing to me in the 1970s when he fought a local fighter in my town. (Of course Bruce found a soft spot to lay down … he got hit but the local guy wasn’t a big puncher and it wasn’t the kind of shot that should have knocked anyone out.)
My all-time favorite quote is the one from Conn @20.22 of this vid, in the post-fight after the 1st Louis fight: "I guess I had too much to win for tonight." This content is protected
