i suffered a terrible knee injury and had orthoscropic knee surgery (left knee) and lately my cardio has been made up of the following: 7 days a week, stationary bike 1 hour eliptical 45 minutes. walking on treadmill 45 mins. I go to college in AZ and i bike a lot around campus and around town. Just wondering if this is okay? This is just my cardio and I do find time to do it everyday because I get up at around 5AM (arizona's weather + sun gives me some xtra energy:good) any advice gladly welcomed.
even though its all fairly low impact stuff pay attention to your knee for the rest of your life man. have you considered swimming?
yep I am getting back into swimming, (used to swim in highschool) and I was wondering how much should I swim to get an ideal cardio workout?
Fine for cardio but not so good for high intensity sprints which are the main things which help the anaerobic endurance.
depends on the stroke and how well you still do with swimming. if you remember any of your swimming workouts from high school those would be a good start to build off of.
...............This is gonna sound ridiculous, but I've heard it really is one hell of a workout: Water running. Most public pools even have some sort of "class" where you can run across the pool or do laps, and I hear it's exhausting. Low impact as well. Could be just what you need.
nice salsanchezfan, gotta find out im pretty sure the college has it becuase we have olympic swimmers (one is at beijieing now) and lots of olympic sized pools so we have the facilities just hope there is a class like that. sounds good too
................Try that water running yet? I wouldn't think you'd need a class or anything, you could just do it by yourself I'm sure. Where in AZ? ASU?
i've been out of training for the past 5 months because of a knee injury, it just doesn't seem to be getting any better.
i know man it really sucks. like after you go through an operation of the knee then only does one realize how important and how vital it is with your everyday functions. In my case, i have just had a lot of bad luck. I was born with my left knee cap way smaller than my right one. when I got my growth spurt, my left kneecap couldnt keep up with the spontaneous growth of my femur and other leg muscles and thus when I hit high school and played 3 high impact sports (martials arts/boxing being one of them) and with no notification from any doctor (cuz i was born in an inner city hospital with poor as **** facilities) I faulted and thus the knee cap gave out and i injrued it twice. It takes time and a really terible rehab process.
