You feel like I am missing some of your points, and now I feel like you are blatantly misreading mine as well.

I was going to make a thread on the very subject soon so I'll refrain from polluting the quality Marciano thread with replies in which we are not on the same wavelength. Say due to my mistake since I was the one marching into another conversation.

Hate to break it to u but Mercer only has two good wins on his ledger. One to an already 4x loser Witherspoon the other to an over rated Morrison…that’s his whole career. Old Louis is better than either of those two. Louis is the second best HW all time and was on an excellent win streak. Even if he was only 75% the man he was he’s was still better than both those men. U asked for quality and being ranked is at least proof of being quality. I don’t like Don C either but he was an ok boxer and earned his ranking, most people have far fewer good wins than u can imagine. Don prob had as many good wins as Mercer.

Where’s the proof? 11-0 w 11KOs. I have proof that he could be competitive w anyone. U have zero proof he wouldn’t. None.

Mercer ever ko'd by a middleweight? Damiani, ranked no7 was a pretty good scalp.

Don was a good boxer who could prob give a ton of boxer types headaches. But he would never give a good puncher a hard time. Beating world class boxers in Matthews and Lastarza proves that. I wouldn’t bet against Lastarza to out point Mercer

Mathews and Lastarza were diminished fighters after Marciano. just as Layne and Cockell were.
Lastarza got Layne at the right time ,and Cockell got Mathews and Lastarza at the right time.

U won’t catch me dying on the Don C hill. He has a few ok names on the ledger that he caught at the right time. Not to dissimilar to Mercer who’s record is also devout of high quality wins

Fair to say your praise was comfortably above journeyman level, which he most certainly was.

I just don't know what those points are, still. I was saying that small swarmers like Marciano are a bad match-up in general against the 250+ heavy punching fighters that have popped up in fair numbers over the last few decades. Not that these guys are invincible.

I honestly don't know what your points against this were. You were throwing out Mathis and Tunney and whatnot, but neither had anything to with what I was saying.

Mercer learned that he was interested in men during his stint in the army. Truth.

    Noted.

Mathis was more of a throwaway example, but I fully understand how he can be seen as irrelevant, especially if you framed your original conversation around sizeable punchers.

Tunney and the pack were brought up to point that the hittable Bakole wouldn't be an example of a very skilled fighter compared to what was expected of the average smaller fighter, but it is equally true that it's the whole package that matters (size, reach, punching power, solid skills) so once again a rushed, not entirely coherent point. Copy that.

Where I find examples such as Tunney-Dempsey, Louis-Conn, Moore-Valdez, Louis-Schmeling, Duran-Barkley, and even Hunter-Bakole relevant is to show how inside can be a very desirable place to be when against fighters larger, harder hitting, or both.

To make sure I wasn’t crazy I rewatched two Mercer fights today and wasn’t impressed at all. He wasn’t particularly big even compared to Marciano. He certainly wasn’t nearly as skilled. He didn’t have Marciano’s defense and he was a bit slow. Not sure how this is even a question.

Mercer could stink a joint out, split decision a guy like Occosio, lose to Ferguson, lose to an old man Holmes, need a gift to beat an aged Witherpoon...
