Ike starts strong, beating Tito to the punch with his left. Drops Tito with a hook in the 4th. Tito gets up and slams his best left hook directly into Ike's nuts. Ike drops in agony. Gets up after a few minutes but all the fight is drained out of him. Tito takes over and gets a late stoppage
Lopez and ODLH both floored Quartey multiple times with left hooks if I remember rightly. Not to mention Quartey had a habit of sometimes fading late on in fights where as Trinidad was known for the opposite. I think Quartey wins the first half of the fight his piston like left jab causing Tito issues and probably even floors Tito aswell. But once Quartey starts to fade in the 2nd half of the fight Tito will start finding a home for his left hook then its curtains for Quartey. Tito by late TKO I'll go with the 11th round.
Quartey's jab would cause trouble, but quartey didn't have the wheels to really outbox tito. He also isn't winning a shootout with tito either. I can see tito getting up from an early knockdown to gain control as the rounds progress, ending in a late stop for Trinidad.
Agree with everything said, Quartey would slowly drown after 6 rounds. Tito would have fit right in during the 15 round era while Ike struggled over 12.
I’m disgusted by what I’m reading in here…because I agree with it. Now, let’s never speak of a match Trinidad can win again.
I'm going against the grain and going with Quartey. I think Ike had the physical strength to back Tito up with his jab and keep him off balance in a similar fashion to how Winky did in their match. Yes, I know Tito was older and had some ring rust against Winky but Winky was very close friend with Ike and more or less took Ike's style. Tito wasn't effective in that fight because he couldn't set his feet. ODL also jabbed Tito's head off but he didn't it differently with movement where Ike would back him up. All this said, I acknowledge that Tito would be the favorite going into this fight but if I was betting it, I would take Ike for those stylistic reasons that I mentioned. Ike was never stopped in his entire career pro or Am. He was tough, strong and very physical at 147. I think he had the right style to beat Tito.
I know my take isn't popular but Ike absolutely would give him hell and I think had the exact style to trouble Tito. Tito was a powerhouse but he always had to set his feet to punch and he didn't fight backwards very well. Ike would back him up for sure with that jab and his physicality. Now could he do it the whole fight? I don't know but Ike was pretty damn resilient and no one ever stopped him. I think the Winky/Tito fight shows the blueprint.
Basically this - Quartey has some technical skills that could be troublesome for Tito, but I wouldn't trust his chin & stamina to hold up under Tito's power & pressure.
