How Would Jerry Quarry have done if his career had consisted of fighting Floyd Patterson s Opponents?

    Would he lose to Maxim?
    Kod by Ingo and Liston?

He’d do better against those 3 and could win against all those guys.

Don't know much about Maxim, so I can't make a pick there.

Strangely enough, I'd actually favor Ingo over Quarry (been favoring Ingo a lot recently to my surprise ). Ingo wasn't Quarry's usual bread and butter, brain-dead punchers. He could actually box quite a bit, had a great right hand, and more importantly threw it unconventionally. He didn't throw a generic 1-2. After first throwing the jab, he briefly waits before unleashing that thunderous right. I think this would confuse Quarry and throw off his rhythm, and counterpunching.

    As for Liston.... lol

I'd be interested actually to see a Quarry v Ingo series of fights. Maybe not as dramatic as the Patterson fights but they'd have their moments.

The question is of course, are we talking about Quarry fighting Maxim at the age of 19 and Bonavena at the age of 37 as Patterson did? Because that will not go well for him.

    Well Floyd fought:

    * Muhammad Ali twice. So did Quarry. Neither won. But Patterson lasted longer and performed better against better versions of Ali.

    * Jimmy Ellis. So did Quarry. Neither won. But Patterson certainly beat up and hurt Ellis more than Quarry did.

    * Eddie Machen. So did Quarry. Floyd beat Machen. Quarry lost to Machen.

    * George Chuvalo. So did Quarry. Floyd beat George. Quarry got knocked out by Chuvalo

    * Brian London. So did Quarry. Both stopped London.

    * Ingemar Johansson. Floyd knocked out Ingo twice. Would Quarry? (I don't know.)

    * Oscar Bonavena. Floyd beat Oscar. Would Quarry? (I don't know.)

    * Henry Cooper. Floyd beat Cooper by knockout (not on cuts). Would Quarry? (I don't know.)

    * Sonny Liston twice. Floyd got starched both times. Would Quarry beat Liston either time? (I don't know.)

But it isn't looking good for Jerry, IMO. ;)

I don’t think it plays out to different. They were pretty equal as far as quality goes. Patterson I think was better and had they met when Floyd was prime I think he wins. They had different weaknesses. Floyd did better against boxers while Jerry did better against the bigger heavier hitters. I think Quarry beats Ingo but prob has a hard time w Moore. Def looses to Liston but would love to see the first few rounds.

Well if we have Quarry at the age he turned pro and fighting Maxim in the same number of fights as Floyd did.. If that makes sense??

Quarry doesn’t have a prayer against Liston so that one’s out.

Ingemar is possibly a winnable fight but I don’t think he beats him all three times in a 3 fight series.

Against Maxim, Patterson was like 19 years old with 12 or 13 fights and many felt he was robbed anyway. Not sure if quarry does any better under those same circumstances

As for some of Floyd’s other opponents, Jerry probably beats Tommy Jackson, old Archie, Tom Mcneeley, Pete Rademacher and Roy Harris. Machen is a toss up given that an old Machen beat a green Quarry. How would it turn out with both guys in ideal form ? Don’t know. Bonavena is another tossup but I’m leaning towards quarry. Chuvalo was a loss

Overall it’s apparent to me that Patterson was the better fighter. An aging Patterson beat George Chuvalo, Oscar Bonavena and Eddie Machen and gave two better fights to Muhammad Ali than the two Quarry gave him.

Floyd was 19 and had 13 fights under his belt when he lost a close decision to Hall of Famer Joey Maxim (a veteran of 105 fights at that point).

Quarry was 20 and had 12 fights under his belt when he drew with Tony Doyle (11-2), and he was still 20 years old and had 16 fights (15-0-1) on his record when he drew with Tony Alongi.

(About a week after turning 21, Quarry drew with Alongi again.)

I don't know if Quarry being 19 would've made him better.

can anyone tell me why a prime Quarry would beat Maxim?
