I've mentioned this in previous threads but it bears repeating--check out what Ray Arcel and Emanuel Steward had to say about Sonny Liston. (Their testimony alone is good enough for me regarding how good he was!!)
He wasn't overrated, what happened was he had already peaked by the time he won the title, that combined with the fact that after he became champion, he faced one of the 3 greatest HW's in history back to back then was sent into obscurity, it may seem like he was overrated. He definitely was not. His resume up thru the title win shows he clearly was that "uncrowned guy" before he was crowned.

So one whole year? Patterson was by far best opponent he beat with that ease, so realistically he was at his best when he had those performances, which were his best. If they didn't come uncomfortably close to his losses to Ali, this wouldn't be a debate.
