Do people forget how good older boxers were as we progress farther away, or do they just get cliffed

I personally think most don’t understand how the sport changes. Better to look at it in eras like 1890-1935 then 1935-1975 then 75-2005 2005- current the sport changed in many ways. Adding divisions, gloves, less rounds, normal diets, PEDs/ steroids, rules etc. This ******ed idea that human evolution has occurred in the last 100 years is stupid. Give everyone the same rules, diets, gloves, etc and everyone would look completely different. Some would remain successful some less all depends what they’re doing and how they adapt. I don’t think there is a man after 1935 who won the championship that couldn’t compete in modern boxing if given the same equipment, time to train, PEDs etc. They proved to me through film that they had the skill necessary to compete w anyone. But certain styles would be more or less affective w style of gloves and less rounds.

 

I agree with you. I think a lot of people also only know their own eras and don’t k ow a lot about the history of the sport. I grew up watching the four kings, but I watched with my grandfather whose favorite fighter was Jack Dempsey. I love watching all of those old fights. If people actually watch those fights and learn about the old fighters and what they went through you wouldn’t have some 35 year old trying to tell you Floyd Mayweather was better than Sugar Ray Robinson.

 

No old timers shat on Louis, Loughran, Canzi, Pep or Robinson though. They ware acknowledged as very special indeed.

 

I sure do not forget how good boxers of past eras were.

Present day fighters are exhausted after 12 championship rounds, how they would cope going 15 rounds would be interesting.
Likewise same day weighs would add another layer of a challenge for many present day fighters.

I am not a fan of saying boxer A from 50s would beat boxer B from 2020s or vice versa, a champ from whichever era was king at that time, and they get my respect accordingly.

 

Plenty of people shat on them, in fact a lot of people looked at them as bums compared to fighters from their own eras. I've even seen an old Joe Choynski call Greb a bum lol
