Who was in your view THE light heavyweight champion of the world after Roy Jones Jr unified all alphabet titles of his day and becoming undisputed? Captain Hook or Tiger, who still had a valid claim to the lineal title, while being a minor belt holder.

Jones without question. He was dominant against mutual opponents.

Roy never unified the titles during Dariusz's reign, a federal judge "declared Rocchigiani the light heavyweight champion" of the WBC "from 1998-2000," ending when Rocky lost to Dariusz.

As far as the answer to the thread title, there should've been a 3rd option for "neither" IMO. Roy deserved to be regarded as the probable better fighter, but as far as being champion of the division, Dariusz was far too accomplished in his own right to simply pretend that his title claims stopped existing.

Roy was by far the superior fighter. Having lived through that era, it was maddening that the powers that be could not get that fight together.

I can never forget seeing Michalczewski take a pasting from Graciano Rocchigiani before pulling a Luis Santana to get out of the fight. Rocchigiani barely missed him with a punch. He would have been badly beaten by Roy Jones.

I don’t care how good you are. I don’t give a damn. You’re not the man until you beat the man. Jones was never champion at 175. That’s just an objective fact. This poll is merely ‘Do you pretend it was Roy?’

Roy Jones was the light heavyweight champion.

Dariusz tended to fight Roy's opponents after Roy beat them. Boxing scribes at the time even started a "Roycott" because Roy was fighting so many "bums" ... like Julio Gonzalez ... and then Dariusz fought the "bum" Gonzalez and lost his title.

Yeah, but Dariusz fought Hill first, when he was the lineal champion, hence Michalczewski having a strong claim to the throne.

Dariusz was underrated. Great powerjab. Aggressive pursuit of his opponent and good punch selection with very good power.

But Roy is a bridge too far.

Jones was greater and better, but Michalczewski was undoubtedly the champion.

They needed to get it on to be honest.

Michalczewski got schooled by Rocchigiani and pulled a fast one in a fight he was definitely going to lose. Michalczewski also got his face rearranged by Hall and got a dubious stoppage, the same Hall who RJJ treated as a sparring partner.

I don't care if Michalczewski technically held the Lineal Champion it was quite clear RJJ was the number 1 man in the division at that time.

The champion is not necessarly the best boxer in the division. Floyd Patterson was the champion while Sonny Liston was the best heavyweight on the planet.

Well to answer the question simply yes technically Michalczewski was Lineal Champion but virtually no one recognised him as "the man" of the division.
