Ruiz simply walked AJ down, not a lot of finesse and then the Bodybuilder quit.

Douglas has too much laterall movement while firing the jab and will never let him set plus Ruiz is a average puncher at best.

 

Douglas 's version against Tyson beat Ruiz jr by wide UD or late stoppage.

Ruiz beat another versions Douglas by TKO in 8-10.

Both had fast hands, but Douglas better jab, movement, footwork and more variety in combinations would get him a competitive but unanimous decision.
I don't see him able to put away Ruiz as he has a great chin and recovering abilities.

 

They both scored historic upsets, but the differences are as important as the similarities.

Douglas was at least a viable title challenger going into the fateful fight, while Ruiz was a nobody who was brought in as a last minute substitute.

Ironically he was replacing Jarrell Miller, who he would later fight to a draw.

Both were underachieving talents going into their fateful fights.

I think that Douglas was operating on a slightly higher level.

 

The Douglas of the Tyson fight was operating on a MUCH higher level than the plodding Ruiz.

 

Whoever weighs less at the weigh in.

 

Ruiz indeed has a great chin but so did Tyson, and Ruiz was getting caught clean in fights vs AJ, Arreola, Ortiz and Miller, numerous times.

Douglas had great uppercut and straight left which could hurt anyone.

 

That’s not at all what Ruiz did. He won countering Joshua’s offense

 

That’s nonsense. Ruiz was a viable opponent and got the call over like four or five other guys when Miller got pulled.

He’d almost won a title on the road previously and had just made Dimitrenko quit.

 

I’m going to pick Ruiz. Tyson was awful right out of the gate and Joshua looked like his normal self until Ruiz tagged him badly. I also don’t trust Douglas’ heart and stamina in this fight. Ruiz got dropped hard against Joshua and got up and went to war. Douglas got caught being lazy and almost looked like he wanted to stay down.

 

Fair enough

 

Depending on which version of Douglas and Ruiz enters the ring, it could go either way...

 

He wasn't even in the top ten at the time.

Of course we can say in hindsight that he was obviously much better than we thought, but I doubt that he would have been considered as an opponent for Joshua if they hadn't needed a quick replacement.
