Old George Foreman vs Anthony Joshua

AJ is a tough tough out for an old guy who moved at the speed of cheese.

I think AJ might even crack that chin (gasp! choke!) and it wouldn't be pretty.

Foreman didn’t fight guys the size of Joshua for a reason, his style wasn’t going to suit matching with someone so big, he didn’t like to be “The Little Guy” he talked about it.

 

I disagree. He fought several of them, but only if they'd never beaten a top ten contender.

 

I should’ve stipulated they needed a heart beat or else someone will bring up Wepner, Cooney or similar.

 

Gerry Cooney, Savarese, Briggs, Coetzer were all pretty big. Old Foreman was never outweighed but part of that is Foreman putting on an extra 30 pounds if he'd fought AJ Foreman likely outweighs him too.

 

Joshua is probably going the safe way, moving and jabbing to win on points keeping that glass chin safe, because if Foreman catches him it would be the end of the night for Joshua...

 

You have to pick AJ. Comeback Foreman was extremely slow. He couldn’t put away, Briggs, Savarese, Schulz (who deserved the win), and several other guys. He couldn’t even put away Morrison. Alex Stewart lumped him up bad and Holyfield who was under 210 I believe for their bout handled him.
AJ of last week might fold he was that bad. But If I’m talking the guy of 5-6 years ago, he wins and probably by stoppage.
Foreman’s one significant win of his Comeback was Moorer. A blown up light heavy with a poor chin. Who was dominating their fight until the 10th round.

 

Did any of those guys have chins like Joshua? Because thats the elephant in the room. I have a hard time picking Joshua against anybody that can punch or take a punch no matter how much of a better boxer he allegedly is. His chin is that bad.

 

Morrison had a notoriously bad chin, leaky defense and poor stamina. Moorer’s chin was bad as well and he was winning wide until the 10th.
Foreman was just too slow, and as bad as Joshua looked this week, he’s never been taken out by a single shot. Foreman just wouldn’t be able to follow up well enough to stop him.

 

Anybody who thinks Foreman was slow doesn't understand Foreman or boxing.

A ring is 4 corners. It took Foreman no time at all to get from one side to the other and he could do relentlessly because of pacing and footwork. Footwork isn't speed its positioning. Foreman knew were to be and how to cut off the ring.

Heaps of guys he fought on the comeback trail were faster of foot than he was , but they didn't have better footwork , so they couldn't keep him away.

Joshua does not have the footwork to keep Foreman off him , nor does he have the stamina to box off the backfoot consistently.

He going to get stuck holding his feet too much and thats when Foreman beats him down. Foreman is much more composed and relaxed and than Joshua.
Joshua at his best would nick a decision over the Foreman that fought Briggs. But 88-91 Foreman had superior timing , jab and better footwork ... he runs right through AJ

Joshua got up from a heavy knockdown vs Wladimir who is a big puncher and survived.

 

If it was the recent AJ then I could favor old GF. But the prime version beats him like Morrison.
