Eubank-Watson I gets overlooked due to the rematch and its tragic result.
Hopkins-Trinidad is a technical classic with an exciting ending.
Thomas-Witherspoon is a great technical heavyweight clash. Yes, such a thing exists!

Pretty much any of James Toney's standout performances.

Hearns against Benitez, smartly keeping him on the end of his longer punches all night and not over- committing. Took a lot of focus over a prolonged period not to mess that up.

Spinks against Qawi, for much the same reasons.

This fight has long been my go-to choice for technical masterclass.

I know people will just say I'm biased, but I always thought Gavilan was a clear winner of this fight. Graham just didn't open up enough until the championship rounds IMO.

Indulging in my own sub category - most technical slugfest, Liston vs Williams 1.

Imo, a great deal of technical ability on display here in its own from both men - but underscored and magnified by their immense power.

It doesn’t getting any better than this, imo.

Froch himself actually rates that performance as his best overall boxing one. Abraham had been on a bit of a tear having just stopped Jermaine Taylor in the last round. Sure he was orthodox and not a hard puzzle to solve but he was teak tough and could bang and Froch boxed his ears off that night.

A few that might not get mentioned otherwise:

Roberto Duran-Esteban DeJesus III: The birth of the master craftsman Duran from his swarming, all-attack-all-the-time growth period. Freddie Brown or Ray Arcel told Duran to box DeJesus, that if he came out like a house afire Esteban would be waiting with the left hook that knocked Duran on his duff in the opening round of both their previous matchups. Duran listened. This is where we see him setting up his punches, feinting countering … and still putting a beatdown on his man.

Michael Spinks-Marvin Johnson: This Spinks at like 15 fights or so iirc and he uses his full arsenal to dominate and overpower an in-your-face puncher who was also a southpaw. Made it look easy.

Roy Jones Jr-Bernard Hopkins I: Jones was from another planet and Hopkins couldn’t get his feet off the ground. Using angles and speed and ring IQ to supplement his great gifts, Roy Jr boxed circles around him. At one point in the middle rounds, someone on commentary (was it Gil Clancy?) noted that Hopkins couldn’t find Roy even though they were in a boxing ring. Jones would release a combo and slide out at an angle and Hopkins never was able to get a bead on him and engage.

This is one no one expected me to say… alight, again similar to the Leonard fight you’ll need to stretch the term “Elite” Pierre Coetzer vs George Foreman, Pierre was if nothing else was tough, aggressive and a banger… George just neutralised him, tapped him up and down, found his openings and beat him up every time there was a chance. Great performance by Old GF and not a bad win.

    Hi Guys.
Keeping it british, I feel the defeat of Benn by Watson was both unexpected and a master class of how to diminish a punchers ability to connect, and therefore hurt, lest we forget Benn was a huge fav ( from memory ) lots of my friends sort my advice as to who would win, they thought I was a pretty good judge of fights, well that was soon reversed ! my viewpoint was that Benn would be to strong, and hit to hard, and that the fight will not go the distance, ( well that part was correct ) I actually went to the fight, and managed to get a seat fairly near the ring, which was unusual believe me, the fight mirrored Ali/Foreman in a way, and the talk was that the Watson team had looked to that fight for inspiration and guidance, if so, it certainly worked, mind you for 4/5 rounds or so, Benn was resolute and determined, he looked unstoppable, as with the Ali/Foreman fight, I looked to my mates, and we all thought the worse for Watson, I mean Benns punches could be heard ten rows back, hard thudding shots, thrown with all the weight and anger he could muster, his face was set in stone, adversely Watson was the epitome of calm, he looked completely in command of his faculty's, stoicism was the order of the day, time and again he winced after taking 3/4 hard shots to the body, at some stage he must have been praying that Benn would slow, that the hurricane in front would blow out, he had know way of being sure this would happen he just hoped, then the tide began to shift, the shots that were making a booming sound a few rounds ago, were now nothing but taps, the strength was running out of Benn like sand from a hourglass, the eyes didn't look so focused, the body was weak, it had been asked of to much, and his foe was still standing, upright and still eager for combat, how could this be so Benns tired and aching body was asking, why hadn't the other guy folded under the onslaught, like so many others, he must have known at some stage all was lost, his mind must have been racing, then it was all over for him, like the petrol you thought would last to the next garage, but it didn't, you were done finished, the dressing room was a cold and sombre place this time, unlike all the other times where there was merriment, and back slapping, talks of the future fights and riches, alas not now, also where was everybody, reality had started to sink in, you are now an ex champ......
    stay safe guys, chat soon.

He has been mentioned earlier, but Pernell Whitaker’s twirling shutout of Nelson was one for the connoisseur.

OK, so the opponent wasn't elite, but he was a fully paid up member of the 'who needs him club', Khan looked masterful against Collazo. Absolutely schooled a tough, 'live' opponent.

Both Toney vs McCallum fights. Both are very fast for what you would call a chess match too.

    Speaking of Benitez.
Though not one of his wins, and to some not a great fight. ( personally it's one of the best fights in history, from a pure skills view from both fighters)
Leonard vs Benitez is a masterclass from both fighters and a masterpiece in my opinion....
