Judging by the Young bouts and Lyle’s complete inability to handle a slickster, I’d say Machen easily takes this.

This is right on my heavyweight sweet spot. I liked thinking about this fight. @swagdelfadeel i'd name Machen cute rather than slick if you get my meaning? But I think you're probably right, I think Eddie would be trouble for Ron with that left-hand. He might need a trilogy to prove it though and knowing his luck he would get stoped in three and then never get a rematch.

What's the difference between a slick fighter and a cutesy fighter and please give me examples of both? Thank you.

If we’re talking about an ideally good version of Machen then I believe he wins a decision

    Yeah that's probably more accurate.

Eddie also was a lot more capable of stopping an opponent than Young as he had considerably more power, so I think Machen stopping Lyle late is a very real possibility.

Eddie's boxing skills are well renowned but his power is underrated. Judging by his brutal KO over the very durable Valdez, he's hardly a featherfist.

I can’t help but remember Machen’s Johansson fight, Lyle has the better wins, Machen did beat Quarry, but it was a very inexperienced Quarry and he also has a stylist advantage over him, Lyle has better wins than Machen had, he beat Mathis, Bonavena, Ellis and Bugner.
The eye test says Machen was very skilled, had great footwork, could use range deception using feints and feet, could counter even using the shoulder roll, could jab up and down to create level changes, could fight in close and at range, Lyle was a bit more predictable when pressuring, but was a lot bigger, stronger and hit harder and also had decent skill in setting up big punches.
At their absolute best, I favour Machen tentatively, but it’s 55/45.

Slightly favor Machen. Lyle is more powerful, Machen a better boxer. Lyle could KO Machen if he catches him cold.
