I can’t recall any beltless challenger ever getting immediate back to back title shots against the same champion regardless of manner of defeat.

Maybe it’s happened before, but it’s either extremely rare or completely unprecedented. And in general I can’t recall any other boxer who keeps losing as often as AJ does and getting immediate opportunities to right his wrong, it’s the 3rd time now.

I don’t hate AJ but honestly, the sooner AJ and Hearn are out of boxing, the better it is for the sport.

 

Joyce was the defending champion in the first fight with Zhang, though. And he technically got stopped due to a damaged eye. We're used to champions who lose their title getting an immediate rematch.

Joshua wasn't the champ in fight one with Dubois.

Joshua was the challenger against Dubois the first time.

And he got knocked down six times (I know the ref only counted four, but he was down six) ... and he was knocked OUT (10 count) face first inside five rounds.

Never won a round in five rounds.

It was a totally dominant performance by the defending champ (in this case, Dubois). And now he's fighting him again.

Usually when a challenger gets a rematch immediately, there's a controversy of some kind in the first fight. There was no controversy in Dubois-Joshua 1. It was a totally dominant performance by the defending champ.

It's not going to make any sense to fans in the future why this rematch took place. Because it doesn't make any sense.
