Been saying it for years. Gvozdyk was 6'3". Could box and had power. Remember Gvozdyk was up on the cards late against a prime AB. Not a 39 year old AB, but a prime version. Styles makes fights and all that. But that is pretty hard to overlook now after we just saw that 39 year old AB outbox Bivol. I actually don't think that Bivol is Beterbiev's best win. I really do think Gvozdyk before the AB beatdown beats Bivol.
He already beat him in the amateurs iirc but idk, felt it could have been very competitive and both parts stood a chance to the other in the pros
Prime Gvozdyk would be tough for Bivol with his superior height and size. I think he was more athletic and explosive, as well. Could see him winning a competitive decision at his best.
That’s why he got knocked out and Bivol didn’t. Bivol is the superior boxer. Superior everything outside of power.
Not the version that lost to Benavidez, I actually would like to see Benavidez against Beterbeiv or Bivol rather than against Morrell. Morrell vs Benavidez is better for the SMW division but more fun to see Benavidez challenge for LHW gold.
I also feel that Gvozdyk at his best was better than Bivol because he had more facets to his game. That said, Gvozdyk was an easier matchup for Beterbiev precisely because he had power of his own and was willing to trade. Bivol is just pure boxing skills and evasiveness, and that's why AB struggled.
Bivol didn't get knocked out because he fought a 39 year old Beterbiev instead of a 34 year old one like Gvozdyk did.
His hands were not fast enough. His footwork was not fast enough. His defense was not good enough. It's as simple as that. He started getting caught as early as the 2nd round due to him leaving his head out there for too long after throwing a punch. Bivol was much more defensively responsible and rarely gave Beterbeiv a chance to hit him flush. Bivol is much better than Gvozdyk overall. Watch the fight for yourself. This content is protected
