Note, this is a 175lb list (my lists are always by weight, not weight class): -Am I way off the mark? Too high/low? 25. Maxim 26. Patterson 27. O'Brien 28. Carpentier 29. Levinsky 30. Norfolk 31. Conteh 32. Mustafa Muhammad 33. This content is protected 35. Moorer 36. T Burns 37. Berlenbach 38. M Johnson 39. Fox 40. A Ward 41. Hill 42. Kovalev 43. Michalczewskli 44. Tarver 45. Toney 46. Hopkins etc.
What's the criteria? Resume in fights contested at 175lbs? Resume in fights where the fighter weighed no more than 175lbs regardless of their opponents weight? Resume in all career fights, at all weights, for fighters who weighed 175lbs or less at one point in their career? Predicted outcomes in fantasy fights contested at 175lbs? Something else?
Sorry: 50% Resume - Who they did beat, when they themselves weighed in up to 175lb (not necessarily at LHW - could be at heavy or cruiser). 50% H2H - Who you think they would beat, when they weigh in at 175lb.
No problem. You must rate Patterson at 175lbs extremely highly H2H, as he beat no one of significance whilst he weighed 175lbs or under. Other than that I don't really have any observations as our criteria differs too much. My rankings are based on resume, I.e. only on fights that happened, not on what I think would happen in fights that didn't happen, I'd find that particularly troublesome with fighters from vastly different eras. I also only consider fights contested in the weight divison being rated.
Thanks for the reply. While I am 100% sure that it is more logical to rank by weight class, it just doesn't seem right on a fair playing field to pitch someone massive in a modern weight class with day-previous weigh'ins (such as Errol Spence or Kell Brook at WW) versus a smaller old timer in lists. So I factor that in. I guess that's why I do it this way. So, yes, I think if Floyd Patterson had to weigh in at 175lb, I think he would do great vs others on the list under those same conditions. Anyway, thanks again. (and yes, I know my rules are kind of stupid)
Just looking at that list, Moorer, Toney and Patterson have almost no resume at 175 so I don't know why they're so high. Conteh is over guys who he should be below. I don't think Beterbiev would lose to many other light heavyweights. If you're going off resume, Galinez would be pretty close. I'm also going to assume that Beterbiev was a little bit better a few years ago and that Bivol might not need to be the next guy on the list fight after him.
I posted my own attempt @ a top 25 LHWs here. Admittedly, I overlooked Jack Dillon when I made this. 1. Charles 2. Langford 3. Moore 4. Spinks 5. Tunney 6. Foster 7. Conn 8. Greb 9. Loughran 10. Fitz 11. Bivins 12. H. Johnson 13. Norfolk 14. RJJ 15. Qawi 16. Saad 17. Delaney 18. Galindez 19. Gibbons 20. Burns Despite what Beter has accomplished by unifying the titles, I still think his legacy suffers in comparison w/ other great LHWs due to his sparse resume & number of fights, plus the fact that arguably his only fight vs. a truly great LHW ended indecisively. Having said that, I could see him squeezing into the bottom of my top 20, or at worst, being just outside of it.
In terms of H2H, both Bivol and Beterbiev should be in the top 10 maybe even Top 5. Name me one boxer that would do as good as Beterbiev did, at 39 years of age against Bivol. Maybe Archie Moore?
Michael Spinks Roy Jones Jr Mathew Saad Muhammad Qawi No guarantees of course, but 175 is a deep division with some true ATG talents!
I think they gifted the win to Beterbiev to honor him, since he's in the end of his career. In the rematch, they will make the fair decision and give the undisputed title to the rightful owner: Bivol. After the rematch, Beterbiev will probably retire.
I did not see any sign of Bet slowing down stop mentioning the age factor he probably got 2 0 3 more fights.
