I've said for a while, against the hype train, that Whittaker lacks any serious pop.

Yarde / Buatsi / Azeez / Arthur dismantle him with consummate ease.

Yarde / Buatsi within 6. If he is lucky to last that long.

    Azeez / Arthur within 9.

Callum Simpson, if he moves up for this fight, spanks him hard, too.

Christ could you imagine if Lyndon Arthur stopped him? End of career.

It is a shame that he most likely won’t be representing us on the world stage, but the way he surrendered the gold medal I suppose we shouldn’t be too surprised.

Boxrec scoring has it 115-114 Beterbiev. Compubox (fwiw) had Beterbiev outlanding Bivol in 6 rounds with 1 even, which is also 115-114 Beterbiev.

Bivol's face suggested that a lot of solid punches got through.

Almost no one thought Beterbiev would win a decision, Bivol managing to avoid getting stopped is perceived as a victory in itself.

The perception that Bivol has ducked and aged Beterbiev out for 7 years wouldn't have helped him. Beterbiev surely didn't prefer this fight on the cusp of 40, coming off knee surgery 5 months prior.

Bivol couldn't beat (and lost to) a Beterbiev who was 5 years removed from his career best win. Everyone knows he's fortunate he didn't fight the Gvozdyk version.

Just to add, shouldn't the judges be ex-fighters who actually know both how punches and ringwork works.

On the Arms / Gloves don't score yet we are seeing this too often.

    Thoughts?

    Totally agree.

The notion that if a fight is close then the scorecards have to reflect it and also be close is nonsense. Yes, the scorecards often do, but they don't necessarily have to.

The scorecards should be as a close or wide as there are tight rounds i.e. if fighter A conclusively wins 6 rounds and fighter B conclusively wins the other 6, 114 - 114 is the only correct score. If all rounds are close and difficult to score, any score is legit (120 - 108 to fighter A or 120 - 108 to fighter B, or any score in between, including a draw). Obviously, this is if no corruption or incompetence on the judges part takes place.

It truly baffles me when people say, "There were loads of close and difficult to score rounds, but 116 - 112 is too wide".

    Utter bollocks.

Yeh mate, that’s what gets me “close fight, loads of ends could have went either way but 116-112 scandalous” etc no it’s not at all

I completely agree with boxrec... I think round 11 lost the fight for bivol... After such a strong round for beterbiev he was more eye catching in 12th which won the fight in my eyes..

It was brilliant and nobody in that ring was sure who won waiting for scorecards..

They need to do it again and beterbiev will be older and Bivol will be wiser

Bertebiev was the ring general in there all night. Bivol was hitting a lot of arms and gloves despite the biased commentary. My scorecard had it for Bertebiev at the end.

Eddie Hearn claiming it was a robbery and that Bivol put on a masterclass is quite worrying, you’d think a promoter guy would have at least some actual practical boxing knowledge.
A masterclass?? He got bashed up!

    Just watched the fight again.

Had Beterbiev winning 115-113 and that involved giving a swing round to Bivol.

Bivol fought like it was an amatuer fight. You can't do that in an undisputed fight.

When Bivol held his ground and let his hands go, he looked very good.

If he wants to win the rematch, he needs to engage more.

Bivol kept allowing Beterbiev to win the last 30 seconds of the round.

115 - 114 for Beterbiev was exactly the way I saw the fight :)

He was for most rounds from 5 onwards. In the first 4 rounds, though, Bivol was the ring general. Bivol's lateral movement and jabs kept making Beterbiev have to reset. Beterbiev was more tentative. Also, Bivol was dictating the major exchanges and was largely engaging near the centre ring, allowing him many exit avenues once he had finished his attack. Arthur certainly warmed up after that, and Bivol had large stretches in rounds were he done nothing and was constantly backed up.

I had Bivol winning 115-113 but can't really complain about the result. Bivol threw it away on the judges cards with large stretches of inactivity.

    I scored it as below:

    R1 - Bivol
    R2 - Beterbiev
    R3 - Beterbiev
    R4 - Bivol
    R5 - Beterbiev
    R6 - Bivol
    R7 - Beterbiev
    R8 - Beterbiev
    R9 - Bivol
    R10 - Bivol
    R11 - Beterbiev
    R12 - Beterbiev

    115-113 Beterbiev.

My scorecard is very similar, although I gave the 2nd round to Bivol and had it 114-114 each.
I can see 115-113 either way but 116-112 is poor.
