I'm thinking maybe Evander sees a bit of himself in Usyk: a Cruiserweight who moved up and managed to beat bigger fighters to capture a heavyweight belt or two, by being able to take a punch, adapt to styles, fight smartly, leverage superior hand speed, etc.

Then again, I made the argument on another thread that Tyson's "prime" ended not after he lost to Douglas, but before he fought Douglas.... namely, within a few months after he threw in with Don King, fired Kevin Rooney (his love/hate-relationship anchor) and went on a heavier partying binge than Rooney and Bill Cayton (not to mention the by-then late Cus D'Amato and Jimmy Jacobs) would ever have permitted.

Like Rooney said after Tyson's Douglas loss: "Don King has ruined another fighter."

Still, not a "prime" to sniff at -- youngest-ever HW champ, a pre-Douglas 5-year streak of 37 wins, 0 losses and 33 of the wins by KO with the other four basically hugging Tyson the whole time and then thanking their lucky stars they survived the distance.

So, could Usyk -- and, for that matter, Holyfield -- have beaten a pre-Don King Tyson? It would have been fascinating to see....

    Me too
Tyson from around Lewis no, but I think Mike in 96 would smash his body to pieces

He didn't enjoy Fury's feather fisted uppercut, he will loathe Mike's

Awful style for usyk and I have been consistent with this, I can't see him going past 6 rounds. He won't bully, grab and headbutt mike like Holyfield

Too many fighters hit usyk and very often. Not a good trait if you are fighting tyson who is way more dangerous than breidis and chisora

You know......................just because a fighter says something doesn't make it so. They have opinions just like us, sometimes those opinions are very off.

I do think the Usyk is the only person that even has a chance vs. prime Tyson other than Fury (I still can't logically wrap my head around the size dimensions difference).

Honestly, I'll take the word of the man himself, as in himself, not his father, not his trainer but he himself, an actual boxer, an actual ATG, who had actual 2 experiences/bouts with Tyson himself, over other third party people like forum participators.

I think Prime Mike is the only one, who Usyk don't have a chance of beating.

Style is all wrong for him and Tysons size is just perfect to beat Usyk.

Holyfield didn't fight the 80s version of Tyson plus Holyfield was roided up to the gills and was stronger than Tyson in the clinches and headbutted him repeatedly.

I assume Usyk isn't on PEDs and he certainly wouldn't be able to fight like Holyfield did on the inside.

Tyson under Rooney is a formidable opponent for any fighter and both Holyfield and Usyk would not hear the final bell,Tyson under anybody else without the dedication, head movement, elusiveness, body punching, blistering combos and trap setting would still be the same undisciplined head hunting non dedicated thug trying to win fights by intimidation and the brute force approach !

Listen you - Mike Tyson has leather skin, x-ray vision, breaths fire and has two hammers for fists.

    If you think otherwise, YDKSAB!

The (relative) lowlights of Mike Tyson's pre-prison pro boxing record

    - Gifted a 5th round stoppage against 13-10 Mike Jameson

    - Went the 10 round distance (5-4-1) against 31-8 Tillis

    - Went the 10 round distance against 16-1-1 Green

    - Gifted a 10th round stoppage against 22-3-1 Ribalta

    - Went the 12 round distance against 19-5 Smith

    - Went the 12 round distance (7-2-3) against 34-0 Tucker

    - Knocked out in the 10th round by 28-4-1 Douglas, never avenged

    - Went the 12 round distance (9-3) against 25-2-1 Ruddock 2

Six of these eight opponents were billed as being taller than 6'3, six weighed at least 221 lbs, none of them were billed as taller than 6'5 or weighed more than 238 lbs.

There were no prominent heavyweight southpaws prior to the 1990's.

Tyson never scored an uncontroversial stoppage after the 7th round.

Tyson was a huge A-side, the officiating (judging, refereeing, location, ring size, probably drug testing) heavily favoured him. For instance, he fought Jesse Ferguson in a 16 foot ring.

Tyson pulled out of a scheduled November 1991 fight with 26-0 champ Holyfield with two consecutive injuries prior to going to prison, with many believing that he ducked Holyfield (Holyfield allegedly bested Tyson in sparring when they were amateurs and later beat Tyson twice as a pro).

Usyk is a better fighter than Tyson, but Tyson KOs him. Literally the single worst styles match up for Usyk ever.

I think pre-prison Tyson beats the shyte out of Usyk. I can't get the vision of Usyk rolling around on the canvas from a border line body shot.

Holyfield would have cut Usyk into with his left hook to the body.

    He nearly lost to Briedis.
    Prime Tyson would decapitate him.

Weren't there a lot of fouls in the Ruddock fight? I've heard people say he should have been DQed
