Why did Anthony Joshua exhibit such poor defense?

The biggest issue was Dubois' jab AJ had no idea what to do every time it landed it completely threw him off

He has poor recovery abilities when he get's hurt and if someone puts it on him has a dear caught in headlights look

If Ali was fighting him he'd call him the Rabbit like he did against Patterson

He was great against Povetkin. He was patient and wait for the opening while softening Povetkin by body shots.

Povetkin would KO Dubois in my opinion.

 

No he got schooled for 5 rounds offering a pi55 poor defence to everything Dubois threw... then he got KOed.

 

Every exchange involves some risk/reward assessment to be done, and some selling out of defense to open up. Sometimes the risk part wins over the reward part. Nothing crazy happened here. Rookie mistakes are made every outing by the best fighters, and rarely someone pays for it by being obliterated but it happens.

 

AJ is a bum always has been

Only idiots think he's good gifted every medal and belt he's ever fought for. Always finds a way to look poor in a fight. Mentally weak as a wet digestive biscuit. Worse than his chin.

His best win is a green Parker who bricked himself and cruised the fight

Chinny, dumb, slow feet, poor stamina. Just not very good at all. Born of hype. Even though Dubious has polishing to do on his jab a keen eye could see he would be able to outjab AJ simply because he's committed, mentally strong and game as pebble unlike AJ.

Great fighters can get dropped heavily or hurt and find a way back into a fight. Something AJ managed to do once against old man Wlad who himself is overrated. AJ should have actually finished him off in once of them mid rounds before Wlad recovered and did the damage back.

I have no doubts AJ got put over in sparring for Dubious. Meanwhile Dubious has been grinding it out against guys Hearn didn't really want AJ to fight (Hurgovic) because ANYONE with a pulse smashes AJ to a million pieces. Parker rematch is even a risk for AJ.

AJ can't even adjust for Dubious he's so mentally shagged. What is he going to do? try and box long again and get chinned over? Run at Dubious and get chinned over? He gets chinned over no matter what he tries. Pray he can catch Dubious first with a right hand possible but less likely when Dubby is sitting behind his log jab.

When it comes to rematches at the highest level there is only one man who can do the business and his name is Tyson Fury.

Joshua usually has opponents stand off him, giving him space and not exposing his poor movement too much. Last time he had an opponent who really tried to push him back was Ruiz and that was almost 5 years ago and Joshua was 15lbs lighter back then.

Usyk beat him by exposing his poor movement and in a way so did Dubois but with constant pressure instead of in and out movement. That's why I think Joshua looked so slow, he couldn't catch Uysk and he couldn't get out of the way of Dubois. Joshua is at his best when he can stand his ground, the only real exception was when he fought the fat midget Ruiz who he had a massive height and reach advantage over.

I do also think that lean back move that saw him clocked with a big right hand in the first round was something Ben Davidson tried to get him to do, to try and give him more head movement but Joshua is a huge stiff 252lbs man, he's never going to be like Fury in regards to head movement and doing it on the ropes where the ropes prevents how far you can lean back was dumb too.

 

Joshua's biggest problem is that he upped his level of competition for the 1st time for a few years since Usyk, he stopped fighting dumplings and got exposed again.

He's rarely faced a legitimate young (ie. not old) contender who can punch.

Ruiz beat him up..
Parker (not regarded as a big puncher) went the distance in a strangely refereed 12 rounder.
Whyte (not seen as a legitimate contender at the time) rocked him badly in a British title level war.
Franklin went the full 12, has never been regarded as a legitimate contender or a puncher anyway.

Dubois is far from invincible but he's young and big and strong and can punch. He's a better boxer and better fighter and has a better chin.
