Wilder won due to the warning and the opponent was ****. Awful standard. So Wilder is definitely getting a bronze.
nice win deontay go for gold now to restore some pride back in the Olympic boxing team all of them are feeling down:happy
One thing I'd put good money on, I bet no-one in the US camp thought Deontay Wilder would be their last man standing for a medal. As for Andrade, I was definitely surprised but while it was a close fight I don't think it was too controversial for Kim to win it. Andrade was busier and aggressive but too often in the last couple rounds he was guilty of putting quantity over quality, when a slightly cooler head and picking single shots rather than guard-hitting combos would've been better. In return, he was getting counterpunched pretty well and didn't seem to be tracking those return shots as well as I expected.
expectations were so high for this team with Warren and Andrade winning the WC and Yanez winning the Pan Ams. Definatly disappointing. Im happy for Wilder though, winning an Olympic Medal is a big thing and should help him make some more money in the pros to help his daughter
Well, that's thanks to the unseeded draw, no way to predict something like that. Only 16 boxers at HW, so you only need to win two fights to medal and if you have a very lucky draw like Wilder with two bums it's an easy walk to the semis.
Good for Wilder winning a bronze. Even if not impressively, a medal is a medal. He'll find it hard to make it to the final though.
Agreed. They need to get Jermain Taylor, David Reid and say, Andre Ward to help coach over the next 4 years, and we need about 8 really good amateur prospects, and we also need to study how the Koreans fight. They seem to have the amateur style down pat. We need an agressive non stop punching style, kind of like an amateur margarito, and some fast handed amateurs who we can mold into robots.
This team started out with quite a bit of promise. Hopefully Dan Campbell is out after the Olympics and USA Boxing swallows their pride and brings on a Cuban or Russian coach. They also need to change the way the residency program works and involve personal coaches more. I hear they also plan on having more international competitions so more coaches and boxers get international experience. Hopefully that and the rules changes will help before London comes around.
The draw is so important. Some are screwed from the off and others who aren't that great can fluke medals. I haven't been that impressed with many but I haven't see all of the boxing. I like the two Ukrainians from what I have seen.
