Who is your least favorite all-time champion?

I mean, I'm not going to argue that was a great career, but its not a bad one either. There are worse guys than Daniels, and thus, a lot worse than Czyk, was was a two-time guy.

I also used to be irritated by Steve Collins. Such a brave, solid fighter, but I always saw his career as having two parts - middleweight contender in the States who pushed McCallum and Johnson but hit his limit. Second part was relaunching his career in the UK and chasing the big stars there and the WBO route. Great wins over Eubank by Benn shouldn’t have been fighting at that point…yet he keeps pushing the idea that Jones avoided him. Personally, I thought it was more to do with the first part of his career, and that he’d be a tough sell to an American audience because of it….but I suppose that undermines the whole reinvention aspect.
But most of all…he never mentions his loss to Kalambay, as if the fight didn’t even happen. As someone who complains about career injustices, you’d think he’d give props to the person who defeated him so clearly.

I also didn’t like BHop or Calzaghe…when they fought each other I wish there’d been a way for them to both lose.

 

While I agree with much of what your saying about Collins (especially about a clash with Jones, where he was just IMO looking for a big final payday) he was only a part time fighter holding down a job when he fought McCallum, and his other title tilt with Johnson could have gone either way, and these were for what were deemed at the real world titles. Before he fought Eubank, most people in Ireland barely knew who he was! And from what I heard, the only reason he got that fight was because Eubanks proposed rubber match with Ray Close fell through.

 

You used the term, ‘or,’ but I found a fighter who fits the bill for all three.

 

Makes total sense. And I did like him…could imagine having a pint with him on one of my many stays in Dublin, it’s just the Jones & Kalambay things that annoyed me. It was really annoying in the Sky Sports show where they had all the super middleweights in a round table chat.

 

Always found Gianfranco Rosi to be just painful to watch. Always found myself hoping that whoever his opponent was would land something big.

Also thought Pazienza to be sort of a douche.

 

Larry Holmes, or "Low Risk Larry" as I call him here.

Not because he wasn't a really good fighter or a smart businessman. I have regularly heard from a lot of people that he's a good guy.

I hold a grudge simply because of how bamboozled he has otherwise smart boxing people on this forum that's he's a top 3 ATG heavyweight based on his lightweight approach to seeking anything but the softest competition possible. I don't even blame Larry. As hard as Don King worked against him becoming champ, I'd have plotted as long of a reign as possible too. But the number of people on this Forum with a Holmes fetish who snuggle with pillowpets in his likeness at night have soured me on all things Holmes.

 

Thirty years in a ring without beating a single great opponent is quite something. Got to be some kind of record.
