Roy would KO AB in about 6 rounds and go hooping afterwards. Then outbox Bivol the next day. Y'all Mussa Forgot.

If they were in the same era Roid Jones would have 100% ducked him. And Roid Jones hasn't been dropped by far lesser men than Beterbiev in his prime? Lou Del Valle ring a bell?

Since when did RJJ ever "out box" anyone? He used his speed and agility to beat up on slower punching bags. Roy didn't even have a jab.

There's a reason why he had such a sudden and rapid decline. He had **** fundamentals. He style relied far too much on athleticism. a supposed generational talent shouldn't be getting brutally KO'd in a one sided fight by Glen Johnson of all people after losing decisively for the first time.

Agree to disagree on all accounts.

I’ve been quoted here posting that cutting weight would be more of a challenge for Brook and would take a toll on him back in 2016, and I thought history proved me right. You don’t think It’s anything like Roy’s situation, I think It’s very similar.

It would be surprising if adding 20lbs of muscle and cutting it back down in a time span of 14 months in your mid 30s didn’t take a serious toll on the body.

I don’t think Roy that fought say Reggie Johnson would get caught flush with that shot from Tarver.

Based on what exactly? Now Bivol beats prime Roy Jones?

Reality is we'll never know who really was better. I can see a case for either fighter winning, neither faced a fighter like the other.

Beterbiev was outboxed at times by Bivol and Roy no doubt would have a lot of success and make Beterbiev miss a lot and punish him with counters. He'd find RJJ's unorthodox style very difficult to deal with unlike Bivol's text book but more predictable style.

Beterbiev though only needs to land cleanly once, which will be hard to do to be honest but with Roy's tendency to sit on the ropes at times, I could see Beterbiev having success there.

Roy fans have a million excuses for his defeats, juicing, and his old lady glass jaw all of which are as feeble as his old lady glass jaw but they won't even concede that a 40 y/o fighter isn't in their prime, let alone one who has been injury-ravaged throughout their 30s, who had 300 amateur fights fighting with a very aggressive style with much of their amateur career spent fighting at the elite level against the best amateurs in the world not 20 + bin men like Roy fought at the start of his career, and who is notorious for training like a maniac day in day out six days a week.

Here's ''shot'' Roy. Notice how he looks the same as he always did and just as fast as ever

He was taken the distance at LHW by David Telesco, Lou Del Valle, Julio Gonzalez, Mike McCallum, Reggie Johnson, Tarver, Prince Badi Ajamu and it took him 10 or 11 rounds to get a bunch of others out of there at that weight too. That's a lifetime against a puncher like Beterbiev who would be by far the hardest puncher he ever fought at the weight and also by far the physically strongest and with the best engine too. Do t forget that Beterbiev doesn't even need to land clean to get Roy out of there he just needs to graze that glass jaw

The version of Beterbiev who decimated Cloud in a couple of rounds was the prime version of him not the near 40 y/o version we saw against Bivol who again the Roy cultists need to be reminded is a super skilled P4P top 5 ranked master boxer who literally gets hit less than anyone in the sport and whose attributes and skills are the exact ones needed to expose the areas an essentially 40 y/o fighter has declined in

Let's not forget Roy struggled against the Soviet school in the amateurs too and he was knocked out in 3 rounds by light hitting Irishman John Reid in the amateurs in the first installment of shattered glass

A Glenn Johnson right hand sparked Roy out cold before Roy even hit the canvas for goodness sake. Beterbiev's jab carries more power than a Johnson right hand

Neither fighter threw very many punches in that fight
Was a lot of posing and setting then resetting their feet while not throwing. What in the **** are you talking about?

I am, undoubtedly, an RJJ fan. I make no secret of that. So I will brace myself for the inevitable comebacks which seem part and parcel of this thread... But I also like to think of myself, overall, as a reasonable boxing fan.
I just find the lack of nuance in these discussion incredibly bizarre... '(insert latest hot LHW name here) KOs glass jawed Roy with a stiff jab!!)'
People continue to judge Jones at the totality of his reign at LHW, rather than when he was on top or at his best (best for the division - he was probably at his peak at SMW). He was very good at the weight and then, for a long time, very bad. Post Ruiz \ Tarver 2 he was not the same fighter. It's clear as night and day, whatever the reasons you want to posit for that are. Comparing his fights vs Johnson or Calzaghe, for example, in a h2h fight is like using the Ali from the Berbick fight in a hypo2hetical match up vs a peak Tyson. If you want to compare Beterbiev, career for career at LHW, wait until he retires and do it. Or choose who wins H2H at their peak.
Jones built a unique style on speed and reflexes which worked for a long time ... Until it did not. He was 49-1 when he lost cleanly - and pushing 35. But the Roy Jones of 1994 - 2003 - while not perfect - was a force to be reckoned with.

Tarver has never been stopped, McCallum has never been stopped, Del Valle has never been stopped, Gonzalez was very durable, Johnson has never been stopped.

So it seems like a weird criticism considering 2 of those 3 names would be top 3 wins for Beterbiev.
