    Sad news.
He did good against Holyfield and Foreman in the first round, before being KOed.

RIP. Seen quite a few of his fights back in the day. Always fought hard even against insurmountable odds from what I recall.

RIP to a very decent lower end top 10 guy.
I remember in the late 80s when Rodriguez, Damiani, DuPlooy and Coetzer were fighting regularly and getting a few half decent results here and there. Would have been good if they all had fought each other.

I liked Maguila - he always came to fight and wasnt short of skills. Sadly, against the elite guys he was blown away but in all fairness the left hook Foreman hit him with would have knocked down a building and was perhaps the best Foreman looked in his comeback.

Would have liked to seen Rodriguez in with the likes of Berbick, Gary Mason, old Weaver, JLG, Dokes et al in the late 80s/early 90s. I think he could have won a couple of them.

From a few posts of mine regarding him... repliying others.

"Brazilians have this bad habit of mocking their own people though (I just said that the other day about Rubens Barrichelo), so I wouldn´t call him a country´s hero, because few see him that way, so that is where the comparison with Frank Bruno may be different.
His chin was so bad though.... and he had a very padded record, no doubt about it. His way to the top (he was ranked number 2 by The Ring in 1988) was kinda controversial with some wins being clear gifts...

He lives in a mental institute today with serious dementia. The last time he apparead on the news was 10 years ago, due to him beating up a security guard that called him a "illiterate goof", and he punched the guy lol. "I didn't beat him, I just managed the distance with two little jabs" his words to the cops lol , that was so him lol.

"There is two sides of it, since he was overhyped to the extent that on weekends the build up to the fights was all they have in the second´s most watched channel in Brazil, when everyone realized that he was not this great boxer that would be champion of the world, people felt cheated on......
And as I said, brazilians are kinda of snobs once they see that a fellow countryman is not a "winner", they retort to mockery to the guy, it happened with him, it happened with Barrichello, it happened with Zico even..... so after the Holyfield nasty knockout, the inkling that people had that he was being overhyped, became too clear and he became this "showpiece" of amusement for the people, they did pranks on him on TV knowing that he would take the bait, and on boxing talks quickly someone started to talk about how bad he was... etc.. you know...
Also, Maguila came from the poorest part of the country (the Northeast), so he grew up in real poverty (as a kid, he lived in a bucket of an abandoned truck and all he ate was stale bread, and some bananas), and he didn't have any formal education, at all, so.. once you put this man in the mike, he had no filter. And there is also something there, I feel, like... our people being snobs, once they see a guy that was so modest and unschooled, they act like jerks to feel better.

Oh, and to illustrate this even more, he was black, and yes his nickname is Maguila because of the ****** from the cartoon....... the gorilla, that lived in the Zoo and was physically strong but a nice guy and naive... He hated the nickname at first... but he was so nice that he ate it up, and owned it... You know,it was ****ed up if you ask me! "

I've found myself wondering how he'd do now, or in the recent heavyweight pool.

He had win s over faded Tillis and James Smith I think.
Was one of Holyfield s first heavy weight opponents, went down with a bang against old George.

The Smith win was a bad decision... you can call a robbery even.

None of you probably know who Walter Falconi was, but he was the biggest rival Maguila had and those two fights are probably the two most watched Boxing fights ever here.

Somebody posted both fights full on YT, it should be a novelty for most here...

RIP Adilson Will always be remembered for the Holyfield and Foreman losses. Gave his all, lost 2 fights early in his career but reversed those inside the distance.

Solid wins over Jerry Jones (koed future WBO Michael Bent in 1 and decisioned and old Carl Williams), Tillis, Hughroy Currie, Evangelista. Won suspicious decisions over Bonecrusher and future Cruiserweight champ Johnny Nelson.

Shame to hear he was so ridiculed and he suffered in his final years.
