Ok Then how about Margarito vs a prime Ike Quartey at 147?

Not many people seem to remember that Ike had a tendency to tire and get hit often in the later rounds. Jose Luis Lopez was not nearly as busy as Margo and he managed to drop Quartey a couple times and get a draw, even though he threw about 30 punches a round and was a very limited fighter. Lopez was a harder puncher than Margo but was not even CLOSE to being as busy or determined. I KNOW I will be called a nuthugger for this but I think Quartey absolutely schools Margo for about 6-7 rounds and then begins to slow down dramatically in rounds 8-10 due to the busy bodywork/mental pressure. Unlike Lopez, Margo is in supreme shape and would not let Quartey off the hook due to poor stamina as was the case in the Lopez fight. I say Margo by TKO in 11. Let the flaming begin, heh.

The only problem here is Margarito's lack of one punch power in comparison to Lopez, who was the primary reason for me choosing Quartey by such a close Decision over Margo, whereas otherwise I'd probably have heavily favored him.

As much as I've been against the Margarito brigade, this isn't as out of line as most would think, though I'd stick with Quartey by close Decision.

this is actually a good match up.

Ike has been pushed to his limits before and Margarito does that without a doubt. On the other hand Ike has good skills and a top 10 all time jab.

I'd take Ike in a 7-5 decision. If Margarito pulled it out I wouldn't be surprised.

I definately agree with the difference in one-punch power between Lopez and Margarito, but I think what Lopez did with one shot, Margo could and would accomplish with 2-3..again and again, late in the fight. Quartey always noticeably and dramatically decelerated late in fights (vs Carr, DLH, Lopez) as to Margo accelerating late in fights. I just think Quartey would be a sitting duck in the late rounds, and IF Margo's face wasn't completely busted to **** by that point (a big IF, as Quarteys jab was practically a power punch, and I wouldnt be completely surpirised if Margo's eyes were swollen shut by that point), I think Quartey would be struggling to last the distance, simliar to the DLH fight, accept that Margo would not be throwing mostly ineffective flurries. That being said, I would not bet any amount of $ on this fight, and I think it would be a FOTY type war. :bbb

I would tell you that Margarito wouldn't be jumping around and waiting all the time for that one opportunity to land a one punch like a left hook. It would be a tremendous bombfest with Quartey jabbing thunderously and unleashing torpedos from his right and trying to take everything Margo could have thrown with his face. Same thing for Tony but the difference would have been Margo's volume along with punching power and his ability to take punishment... Ike would not have lasted the distance or would have lost the same way he did to Vargas.

The problem with the shell guard against a guy like Margarito is he doesn't care if his punches are only hitting your arms. He's gonna throw them anyways.

Ike did good with guys who were always looking for clean shots. He could cover up and pick his punches. Against Margarito he wouldn't have that luxury. Also add in Quartey's stamina problems. There is really no way he stands there, absorbs all of Margarito's punches and has anything left to get a decisive victory.

Ike had good right hand power but I'm absolutely positive Margarito could hurt Ike worse than Ike would hurt him. Infact I'm willing to say Ike does considerably worse than Clottey did against Margarito. At least with Clottey he doesn't abandon his defense in hopes of landing a monster powershot. We all know what happens when someone tries that with Margarito.
