why did anthony joshua turn down dubois rematch ?

One is a chance and the other is reality, Joshua is done, from now on it's all about money.

Hearn protecting Joshua from himself. Hearn knows Joshua stands a better chance of beating Fury (40%) in his next fight than he does in a rematch with Dubois (20%) with the added incentive of a much bigger purse and potentially the chance for Joshua to become lineal heavyweight champion for the 1st time in his career.

The elephant in the room though is the psychological damage that Dubois' destruction did to Joshua's mental state.

We saw after the Ruiz fight how Joshua wants to always blame his trainer instead of himself, we saw how Joshua became gun shy and became scared to get involved in exchanges due to chin and stamina issues. Its possible that Dubois has absolutely ruined Joshua,.

Whatever happens next, Hearn needs to make sure he keeps Joshua well away from Dubois, if he cant get Fury then they need to put Joshua back in with feather fisted fighters like Franklin and Wallin again until he gets a shot at a vacated belt in a match up hes confident in.

 

The official claim is that fighting in Feb does not give AJ enough time to prep. Obviously that is nonsense.

However AJ and Hearn are weighing up options. AJ v Fury is still a big fight and they can't have AJ battered again. I think most believe Usyk beats Fury again, meaning the two Brits can get it on in 2025. If AJ was to lose again that kills the Fury fight. I'm assuming Hearn could also be working towards a Wilder fight.

Either way, I'm not fussed. As a fan I'd much rather see Dubois v Parker or Zhang. Both look unlikely and it could be Wardley, which I think is a bad move on Wardley's part but he definitely deserves a pop at the higher level and it would be entertaining while it lasts.

Because rematches where the first fight was so one sided rarely end with different outcomes. To compare: against Ruiz, Joshua was handling him until he got clipped. Even after he got clipped he was in the fight. The rematch he stuck to the gameplan and it was what it was. Joshua/Dubois, at no point in time was Joshua ever even in that fight.

I mean theres nothing official to say its not going to happen but when Hearn starts talking about the Feb date not being long enough due to "niggles and injuries" and that Fury/Usyk is in December and it could be Fury/AJ in the summer...you know where they are going...I dont think its AJ or Hearn being scared, I think its them seeing £££ signs because if AJ loses the rematch with Dubois there's going to be no Fury fight and then that's both Fury and Wilder he's failed to fight in his career.

If Fury was to beat Usyk I’d like to see him fight Dubois to try and become Undisputed Champion himself,but tbh should he win there is more chance of Fury having a trilogy fight with Usyk. I’d also like to see the sanctioning bodies getting involved in stopping ReMatchroom forcing fighters into rematches just because they beat there house fighter. Until Joshua DECIDES if he is taking the rematch or not Dubois is basically tied up and his career on hold until this other fighter gives him the green light to fight somebody else and this is all wrong. If you dictate that in the contract there is an immediate one way rematch then you should also be tied to it instead of having control over somebody else’s career until they decide what they are actually going to do !

 

Hearn has always had the Fury v Joshua fight as the last big money maker and last roll of the dice for Joshua’s career,even a blind man could see it. Yes the fight will sell no doubt about it but so would Joshua v Wilder which is the next biggest fight for Joshua and tbh should Fury beat Usyk imo Joshua would not be deserving of a fight with Fury. Joshua tied Dubois up in a one way rematch and ducking this rematch simply does not earn him a shot at Fury.
