Max Baer in the 1970s

Just watched Baer-Braddock. Baer weighed 209. He looked really poor to me. Braddock, who let's be honest, was a journey man level tough guy, and he hit Max at will. Chin, body, head wherever and whenever he wanted to hit Max.

Baer was slow of foot and hands. Zero defense and of course looked like he would rather have been in a brothel.

I don't think Max could survive top ten HW's from the 60's onwards. Even Floyd Patterson would toy with him, and that's as bad as it gets.

 

Everything you say here of Baer & Braddock could be used to describe Tyson & Douglas, to be fair.

 

When I see you favor Patterson over someone, they really must’ve been terrible.

 

Bigger and more powerful sure, better hell no.

 

So one off performance erases wins over Carnera, Schmeling, Schaaf, Levinsky, Farr, Comiskey and Galento.

 

lol show me one bout where he displayed good defensive skills, and any semblance of a jab.

Even in one of the bouts touted here as one of his best against Galento, we can plainly see him duck INTO punches from a guy half a foot shorter than him.... punches that he wouldn't have been hit by otherwise. Yeah I'm sure someone here will explain in depth how that was actually a genius technique lost to the ages.

 

Yeah, a real Murderers Row right there.

Farr, I grant you, was a good boxer. As was Schmeling who had his one day in the sun vs Louis. Won his belt on a DQ.

 

Oh come on! You're really telling me you wouldn't be shaking in your boots standing across the ring from this?
