Larry Holmes is 75 years old today...

I can say that Larry was an announcer for the Sanchez - Nelson fight and he was pretty good.

 

I'm not getting into a flame war over this with a proven Holmes hater .
Your hate drives you on this and your opinion on this subject isn't of any value to me ,so just continue on your merry way . IDGAF!

 

A lot of playing the man & not much interest in the ball. You have the word of people invested in talking up the injury, I have the fight footage which demonstrates otherwise - even DynamicPuncher, who cannot stand me, was compelled to agree.

I don’t deny hating Holmes, but I can defy you to show me where I have ever denied him his due. Plenty of people have Norton beating him, & I’m among the first in this thread to say Holmes not only won, but won easier than most say.

I hate Naseem Hamed and Adrian Broner, because of their characters and personality , but I've no difficulty in recognising their individual skills,and giving them deserved credit when they've demonstrated them.
I dislike Ray Robinson,because he was a Wife beating narcissus who cause his Wife to have at least one miscarriage,but I've no problem acknowledging his superb talents, that's the very definition of objectivity.

You base all your opinion of Holmes injury on how well he fought,which to your biased eyes means he must be lying about it.
To admit he may have been telling the truth and been prepared to fight through the pain would be,because of your hatred of him, unthinkable for you to consider .
I've watched boxers battle on with broken hands ,broken jaws,broken ribs,torn rotator cuffs and, like everyone else, except their corners been unaware of their injuries,but you couldn't contemplate Holmes doing the same could you.
I've never met Holmes,he seems an honest ,down to earth person who can be abrasive on occasion,but those on here and other forums who have been in his company say he's a regular guy.
Even if he was a total arsehole ,without proof to the contrary I'd still give him the benefit of believing him,re his injury.
That's my last take on the subject.

Nah, no offense Ney but NoNeck is more knowledgeable and has a better sense of humor.

 

The point of contention at this stage is the role it played in the fight. Holmes is on record categorically stating that he trained through it, overcome it and was not affected by it. This is born out by the effectiveness of his left hand in the fight. There is also irrefutable evidence that he did have a bicep problem going into the fight.

So it's correct to say Holmes tore his left biceps training for the fight and it's also true to say it did not affect his performance. This seems to be the bane of contention.
