They said it was a robbery straight after the decision was announced. I'm sure that's the version of events they would tell today. It's not what I remember though. George is no longer around to give his side of the story. The reaction of the Australian commentators was the same as the Korean fighter. If you look at the still in the original post when the decision is announced, he's ready to celebrate a victory. Like the commentators, he changed his tune on the outcome when the crowd reacted badly. Can't say I've seen too many fighters over the years refrain from claiming victory just b/c the crowd doesn't agree with the decision.

Standing 8-counts don't matter in the amateurs. Watching it on tape 36 years later isn't the same as being there & scoring it in favour of the local fighter on the day. If that result was corruption, so is every other fight where the home-town fighter gets a leg up on the scorecards. That's the sport, I'm afraid. Whether people like it or not. Let's just not pretend that Roy is the only guy in history to have been shafted at the Olympics.

I actually had never watched this before today…

Even among the history of corrupt or bad decisions in the sport, this has got to be one of the absolute worst!

Why did Andre Ward take the win and the belts from Sergey Kovalev after Kovalev-Ward I?

Why did Andre Ward take the win and the medal in the 2004 Olympics, when Utkirbek Haydarov clearly defeated him?

There have been far more robberies over foreign boxers in the USA than anywhere on earth, but some people after nearly 40 years are still whining and moaning over Jones-Park.

The standing 8 count was because Jones had Park in trouble. Just one example of Jones' dominance in the fight.

There is no case for scoring it the way they did. It wasn't even close.

Unquestionably. I have seen more one sided fights but few, if any where the guy clearly losing gets the win.

Park was also a victim of this, as it ruined his career. He said in an interview after the Olympics that his silver medal was taken away from him. He was shamed by the criticism and guilt around him, and he never boxed again after that.

Just a long list of corruptions in boxing. Wasn't the first and won't be the last blatant robbery.

Nobody who watched that fight could have said that it was even remotely close.

The South Korean judges were corrupt officials, who were later banned.

None of those fights were like that one.

And after an investigation, the officials were banned.

    So there was blatant corruption.

    Don’t be silly.

Those officials were banned for life after a thorough investigation.

    It wasn’t incompetence.

    It was blatant corruption.

The commentators I listened to 36 years ago did. Up until the decision was announced, that is. Then they changed their minds. Too bad today's know-it-alls don't think that was possible.

I'm pretty sure the judges weren't from South Korea either. Just b/c it was a South Korean Olympics doesn't mean they supplied all the judges.

When are they going to investigate the judges who scored to AJ over Savon in the first round of the London Olympics?
