Mike Tyson Appreciation Thread

People will forget about this fight in a few weels/months. It won't tarnish his legacy one bit, just like the Williams and McBride losses.

 

The thing that bothers me is that this somehow was a sanctioned fight and was going to go on Tysons record as a loss. Tyson-Jones was an exhibition, why in the blue hell was this a sanctioned professional boxing match?

Anyways Tysons career as a whole outshines this debacle, and he became the youngest heavyweight to win a world title, and Oldest Heavyweight to ever fight on the grand stage, and he broke Netflix at the same time . Hell of a career for Iron Mike!

 

Why do we have to appreciate Tyson's career after this exhibition fight?

 

In under 2 years he had just under 30 professional fights going 10 rounds 3 times and becoming the youngest Heavyweight champion in history that is special.

His title reign during 86-89 was one of the most impressive destructive reigns of all time beating 8 ranked fighters stopping 6 out of the 8 ranked fighters not to mention becoming undisputed and lineal Heavyweight champion all in just a few years.

One of the best defenses of all time for an aggressive fighter, one of the fastest Heavyweights of all time, one of the best KO artists of all time, and one of the most eye pleasing exciting fighters you will ever see.

The Paul fight was a farce and doesn't effect Tyson's reputation or legacy one bit if anything it's enhanced his reputation because so many support him and the fact he went 8 rounds at 58 years old is remarkable.

 

Always liked this one. Starts at the end of his career then flashes back...

Thank you Jake for being honorable and not knocking Mikes head off. They took their money and Jake didn’t inflict too much damage on Mike out of respect. Tyson probably needed that money tbh.

If you did carry a fighter out of respect, that respect should extend to not proclaiming that you did carry them.

Now I will say that Paul was pushed on the question and reluctantly admitted that he might’ve taken it easy, so it wasn’t a completely self propagated admission and he quickly returned to saying that Mike put up a good fight and that he was mindful not to cop any counters from Tyson.

However, a guy like Larry Holmes just had to tell the world he went easy on Ali out of “respect” - I don’t actually believe Holmes on that claim - but it doesn’t matter, the point is WHY contradict the alleged respect you claim to hold?

 

I have been fortunate to have lived the careers of dozens of legends, live as the world is living it, because my fanboyism started very early in life. same amazement and excitement we are living through our current stars like inoue, usyk, bam crawford, etc...i have felt in real time for many legends of the past. mike stands apart. his fights were worldwide events. from his persona and attire, to his fury in the ring, it was a spectacle. performed in front of the eyes of some of the most famous people in the world. no one could do it like mike.
