IDK man. I don't understand it. This pisses right in Cus's face and the legacy they built together. Now a whole generation will know Mike Tyson as the short guy who got his asswhipped by Jake Paul. If it's purely the $ then I get it but then again Mike is the same guy I saw on his show talking about how he was the happiest when he was broke and all the $ caused so many problems. I'm processing this but I don't think I'm gonna pay any attention to what Mike says anymore especially when he's high. Can't even say it's good for boxing because not at all. Then again the current state of the game is responsible for this. That there is even a demand for it is embarrassing to the current sport.
After what he said to that little girl who interviewed him nothing he says should be respected. It was shameful.
I don’t think Cus or anyone else should hold bad performances or defeats against him when he was long past his prime. But some of the egregious behavior he’s exercised over the years such as some of the examples you gave ? Yes
If D'Amato was Tyson's manager he'd probably have his hands out for the manager's cut of 20M coming his way. Today, he'd probably be out drumming up publicity for a rematch or trying to find another big money fight. If he was not still managing MT, he'd probably criticize the Texas Commission for sanctioning the fight.
Jake Paul made a minimum of 40M last night...I doubt he cares whether anybody thinks he is a good boxer or not. The thing is that people will pay even more to see him exposed and beaten. If he fights Dubois or Zhang or Bakole he might not last 30 seconds but he'll make more than 40M and he might fall without taking any damage. It's doubtful that his goal is to be heavyweight champ, but his goal might be to make the most money that anyone has made from boxing. He might not be "legit" but when he is retired and healthy and wealthy he probably won't care whether anybody considers him a great boxer or not.
This. Cus would’ve been proud, since Tyson laughed all the way to the bank. If anything Cus would’ve helped Tyson squeeze more money out of Netflix before taking the fight.
I actually feel bad for our sport now. It's always had a bad press with one thing or another, but this crap with Paul and his Dodgy fight s, really pissing on boxing. And Tyson.. FFS he s a boxing historian and the biggest name bar Ali yet he's getting involved in the circus. Ahh well thing's can only get better.
I can't imagine Mike knowing he could earn 20 million dollars to pass onto his children, but then choosing not to because he didn't want to disappoint his dead trainer from 40 years ago.
Tyson was a great fighter and his loss of Cus hurt him because of his respect and love for Cus but Cus built him. At this point you can't be smoking 20 blunts of weed daily and expect to bounce back with stamina- Mike still got in there and made 20mm for his family and if people paid to watch him, I can't blame him. It was actually a non- selfish thing he did. Consistent condition is the key but it's a rare thing these days. Tyson Fury would be a far greater fighter if he lived more of a spartan life while he is competing. I always felt you have to maintain condition to get in fighting condition.
This hurts his legacy less than the McBride fight, I'm not going to begrudge him 20 million even if I think it was a **** show.
