His power came from his speed. Once he lost his handspeed (and reflexes & balance), he lost the ability to punch. His right hand lacked leverage against Big Bang. He's done
The facts are these, Wilder is 3-4-1 in his last 8 fights with 3 of those losses being brutal ko's. That is how the record of many fighters look as they're in the final stage of their boxing career. I mean if you're Wilder's team, who would you feel comfortable and confident putting him in the ring with that he'd for sure get a win? He needs someone who has a terrible defense that he can hit ,,Makhmudov? Then again if Makhmudov bull rushes him as he should it might no go well. I just see no path forward for him, time to fold his hand, he's bluffing.
When a boxer has a team that needs the boxer to continue fighting because they have bills to be paid they don't care about their welfare until they can't pass a physical and are forced to retire.
It honestly seems this way. I would add his utter confidence in himself and his power was also a factor. Now he's hesitant so the accuracy and power isn't the same. Reminds of me Roy Jones a bit. I some of Roy's decline was also confidence based after getting stopped by Tarver.
He's done. He can continue to fight if he wants to but it's just going to result in more unnecessary damage. Some fighter's just don't have a sense of when it's time to hang them up. Wilder is one of those fighter's.
His power was overrated in the first place. It was nothing more than a club punch. As a bouncer, I've seen little 140lb wanna be thugs throw that punch in the parking lot and have the same effect on people. Lean your entire body into a wide swing. If it connects it does damage. Wilder looked elite vs a bunch of mildly trained unranked opponents who were scare of getting hit. The moment he started fighting elite opponents, it all went left of him. He was exposed by Ortiz, and then broken by Fury......... This is his last opportunity to get a big payday. I don't know his financial situation, but honestly after his last 2 losses, why not just ride off into the sunset and be there for your family with the memories and money gained from this sport. From what's promoted, he is a great family man/father. I believe his daughter has health risks.... I'm sure he would be more use to her if he's healthy and not struggling from taking too much unnecessary punishment in the ring just so a bunch of ignorant strangers can scream his name one more time. Know when to walk away....that last KO.....you went in a complete circle man as if someone tapped you on the shoulder for a prank and jumped to the opposite side.
