It’s flippant & facile to say he never beat anyone, but…you can see where he’s coming from & you don’t need to hate Tyson to feel that way (though maybe he does, I don’t know as your article isn’t loading for me). It’s a thin résumé for name recognition & in-ring quality. He did clean house comprehensively, but overall, I regard his career as a very striking case of under-achieving. He should have been champion for years & years after vanquishing Spinks.

It's true, Mike never beat an ATG who wasn't past it or a light heavyweight.

That said, his performances in defeat (Lewis, Douglas) more than showcased his championship worth. And I should add against Ruddock 2...he took some terrible shots from Razor and kept coming.

Lol had a quick flick through your posts and see there’s a load of nonsense about Holmes and Tyson, don’t know if it’s some kind of wind up or you just post rubbish but leave me out of it please

Mike Tyson, “one of the great résumés?” I’ll leave you be, sure…but you’ll be leaving plenty of other people as bemused as I am.

Maybe Mike Tyson didn't have the greatest championship competition in history.
But I guarantee you this .
Wilder wouldn't have been any contender he faced during his title run.
No Wilder would've been one of those unskilled fighters Tyson faced prior to his winning the heavyweight championship.
One of those warm -ups most world class fighters face on their way to a championship.
    You know the type.
Reggie Gross, Alonzo Ratliff, Marvin Frazier, Jesse Ferguson, hell, Wilder never demonstrated those four fighters level of competence in a boxing ring.
    He just hit hard.
That era had one of those too, he didn't amount to much either, Jeff Simms...
That's who Dontey Wilder would've been during Tyson’s prime era .
Jeff Simms. Who's best efforts were against a completely past prime Ali in a sparring match.

That really doesn’t have anything to do with the topic though. This is an entire forum of non-pro Boxers who routinely shred professional fighters. Will anyone complain if I call Bruce Seldon ****? I don’t think so.

I can’t see the article so I don’t know if Wilder is making legitimate specific points, but you are playing the man instead of the ball here.

From what I can see, the feud began as an extension of Wilder's rivalry w/ Fury. Wilder was looking to get @ Fury by disparaging his namesake.

Sorry Ney but I think this is one of the myths. People have a problem that Tyson knocked out LHW Spinks in 90 seconds, but few people have a problem that Larry Holmes lost to LHW Spinks. By the way, Spinks was bigger with Tyson than FOTC Joe Frazier or Patterson was with Liston and he still looked natural.

Tyson's statistics include 5 heavyweight belts won, which is a record, and the unified title defended 6 times, which is a record. In addition, beating 6 former world champions, beating 2 ATG, beating 3 Olympic champions, winning 12 championship fights, two titles of boxer of the year according to The Ring. Most of it in a dominant way. How is it that people value the weak fight between Lewis and 37-year-old Holyfield more and completely underestimate the destruction of 38-year-old Holmes, who was a more long-lived athlete and proved that many years after the fight with Tyson he was still very strong. Oliver McCall called the 46-year-old Holmes the best fighter he had ever faced.
Tyson does not have an outstanding CV, but under certain criteria his career is amazing. On the other hand, there was no boxer who had worse relations with journalists, publicists and trainers. promoters, so he is the most hated boxer in history, and simple fans rarely have their own opinions. He relies on statistics and what he hears or reads.

Would also pick 1996 Holyfield and 2002 Lennox Lewis to beat peak Wilder.

People like to discredit the wins over Holmes and Spinks but the fact is you're talking about two ATGs who had over 30 championship fights and over 100 fights between them and they were only stopped once in their careers by Tyson that's a very significant stat.

Where people miss the point with Tyson is that yeah the 80s title holders/contenders weren't ATGs but fighters like Berbick, Thomas, Bruno, Tubbs, Williams, were still class fighters and it's the manner in which Tyson was beating them which was impressive.

Wilder has only beaten 2 opponents who were ranked one was pushing 40 in Ortiz and the other Stirvernne was a step below most of the top 80s contenders of Tyson's era.

So I don't know how Wilder thinks he has room to talk to be quite honest.
