Salvador Sanchez vs Danny Lopez 2, what a performance. A master at work.

I've always thought that the Lopez rematch was Sal's most complete performance. His "best" performance was of course Gomez, but the Lopez rematch is where he displays his full boxing tool bag.

 

Yeah that was a more dominant performance than the 1st fight. I agree that was his most complete performance.

 

The beating Red was taking was hard to watch for me. I don't get how his corner didn't call it off much sooner. Gotta protect your fighter!

 

In the 1st fight, Sanchez was very conscious of avoiding Lopez's power & he stayed on his toes for almost the entire fight.

In the 2nd, he seemed much more relaxed & confident, & more willing to stand flatfooted & load up on his punches.

I still prefer the 1st fight as a showcase for his defensive capabilities, however.

 

Yeah, Sal was dominate in the first fight, but he was also a greener fighter and you'll notice that he uncharacteristically fought in a high guard all night, wary of Lopez's power.

In the rematch he was far more loose, fluid, and confident, and fought in his typical lower, more relaxed guard while still slipping everything.

 

Sal for me was the best Mexico ever produced. I think that Chavez and Olivares might narrowly surpass him for greatness, but that's only because Chavez and Olivares didn't die at 23.

 

Looking at Mexico's best fighters,

Olivares had the greatest peak IMO.
Chavez had the most consistency/longevity.
Marquez had the greatest single victory (Pacquiao).
Sanchez was the most well-rounded/talented.

Each 1 of them has something to set them apart from the others IMO.

 

I'd disagree about Marquez.

I think the greatest Mexican win was Gomez. Gomez was at the peak of his powers and considered P4P #1.

I hold that win in higher regard than Marquez walking a faded Pac into a fluke-ish right hand KO.

 

That right hand had a decade plus of rage in it, fueled by the finest veterinary pharmaceuticals in all of Mexico!

Also I made 700 dollars on that happening. Marquez KO was +600.

Wow, just the complete control he made it look effortless. If he’s not in your top three Mexican fighters something wrong with you.

 

Sanchez looked magnificent in that fight where he was much more loose and fluid with his punches and movement. Although I do think that the the first fight was already too one sided enough to even warrant a rematch from the get go. Couldn't help but feel bad seeing Danny Lopez being severely outclassed the second time against Sanchez.

One of the finest fighters Mexico has produced and the most skilled Mexican fighter I've seen alongside Chavez, Canto, Finito, JMM, Barrera, Saldivar, Roman especially for a fighter at such a young age. Still dumbfounded how boxing trainer Nacho Beristain never seem to regard Sanchez as a great technician.

 

I don't think the rematch was more dominant from memory Lopez was actually ahead on points after 4 rounds I had him 3-1 up. In comparison i only gave Lopez 1 round in their 1st fight.
