Corrie Sanders vs Renaldo Snipes

Sanders, no doubt. Snipes struggled with lesser fighters than Sanders, none of whom had his power or accuracy or speed.

 

Sanders decision, Snipes wouldn’t be able to do much against the taller rangey Sanders, and since he’s much lighter, he wouldn’t be able to force the action, he’d be stuck on the end of the punches, and he’d go into survival mode, but he’s tricky and slippery enough to last the distance and not get caught clean with combinations.

 

Man Cooper was really heavy for the Sanders fight. Always left wondering what Cooper you were going to get in there.

So Snipes “struggled with” lesser fighters than Sanders … yet Sanders got KTFO in two rounds by Nate Tubbs, who only beat like two other (journeymen/opponent types) with winning records in his entire career.

That’s not struggling with Nate, it’s getting mopped up by the lesser Tubbs.

If Nate can KO Sanders, surely Snipes can.

 

Snipes lost to Ricky Parkey, who barely had a winning record. He lost to no-name Evangelista. He lost to Norris who was light in the pants. He took seven rounds to beat du Plooy who was mopped up in one by Sanders.

Sanders would have gotten rid of Snipes and fast.

 

I don’t know. I agree with those who say that Sanders had better skills and faster hands. And southpaws are always hell to fight. But snipes was tough and had the tendency to linger around with elite fighters either giving them fits or even upsetting them on occasion. Meanwhile, sanders didn’t have the best stamina. I think it’s more of a pick ‘em fight than some realize.

In my opinion it's perfectly obvious that even a green Sanders is on another level to Snipes.

 

There's zero context in this. Sanders is a puncher. Sanders was green but Snipes was also half a decade past his best days. Du Plooy was also not as good by the time he fought Corrie.

We may as well put up Holmes vs Michael Spinks and then Tyson vs Michael Spinks to figure out who would win between those two, or Norton vs Foreman and Norton vs Ali to see why Ali would beat Norton while barely raising a sweat.

 

Sanders was on his 11th fight LOL. Clearly nowhere near his best. Snipes on the other hand was at the start of a 10 fight win streak. There's another common opponent in Garing Lane. Snipes nearly got switched off by Lane whereas Sanders more or less whitewashed Lane.

Regardless of the common opponents it's equally clear to me that Sanders has a considerable edge in speed, power and accuracy. Snipes' big wild swings would be an open invitation to a counterpuncher like Sanders to cash in.

 

Yes i acknowledged he was green, absolutely. I'm not sure if you are having a laugh about the "10 fight win streak". Did you have a look at the opponents? Jesus Christ LOL. Snipes never put on a meaningful performance post losing to Greg Page in 1983. He followed that up with two very ordinary losses. His best died with Berbick and then Page in late 82 and early 83 but you want to talk about 1988 and even 1992 Snipes. It's got nothing to do with how they'd go best for best. I'm pretty sure I've seen you hollering about Sanders being semi retired and a golf pro when some of his losses are brought up. No such consideration for poor old Naldo.

You want to talk common opponents when Snipes was declining in 1983 and Sanders only turned pro in 1989. One of these is not like the other. Context.

Bringing up Garing Lane is disingenuous in the extreme. Snipes was what, 39yo and a decade past his best? He hadn't fought for over 2 years after breaking his hand.

I'd favor Sanders but not by a big margin. At his best (5-10 years before you are looking at) Snipes was pretty dangerous and had underrated power. He threw some wild punches but check out the right hand that dropped Holmes. It was as direct as it gets.

For all the tools he supposedly had Sanders career was pretty disappointing excepting Wlad. If not for that win he wouldn't have much at all. Brewster demolished him as well 13 months later. Obviously this pre-Steward was far more vulnerable than the latter version tho it's still a big big win.

 

Yeah ... that's Snipes' career in a nushell. Du Plooy was probably his second best win ever.

 

True, they were both disgustingly short of depth on the resume, that's for certain.
