I was wondering what everyone thinks? In my opinion it’s Ben Davison. I know as an actual coach some people question him but there’s no doubt about his tactical / analytical skills when I listen to him speak about boxing it is very clear that he knows what he’s talking about. But I’m wondering what other ACTIVE coaches fall into this type of category of tactical / analytical coaches that can put together a perfect round by round game plan?
Interesting….i personally feel like Shane’s style works best with punchers / physical fighters. whereas Bens approach ( although you may not rate him) works better with more technical / defensive minded fighters. would you agree? however I haven’t done a whole lot of research or played particular attention to Shane I’ll be honest
Shane is a good coach but his style of coaching doesn't suit a lot of fighters and he stretches himself thin quite often. Ben Davidson is a clown and a boxfit instructor. Buddy McGirt has a good boxing brain and seems to know how to best handle his guys in the corner and adapts to them pretty well. Ismael Salas is an excellent coach who understands the ins and outs of boxing fundamentals like the back of his hand. All the fighters he trains have a wonderful understanding of rhythm like Linares, Ioka, and Joyce. Robert Garcia has clearly established himself as a top tier coach and strategist. Shingo Inoue is a very underrated coach. Sure, having the physical gifts of a guy like Naoya makes it easier but his game-plans have always worked so far, and the fact he got Takuma to a title despite the kid being unable to crack an egg is a testament to how good he is. Freddie Roach still remains one of boxing's best luminaries too imo. Bomac of course deserves mention. Marc Ramsay is a very solid coach who works with Beterbiev and Mbilli. I really like what Ronnie Shields did with Jermall though, he taught him textbook boxing and the intricacies of the jab. He has coached so many ATG fighters. imo, Ismael Salas is the best coach in boxing today however.
I think synergy between a trainer and a fighter is more important then anything else. Davidson seems to be good at having that synergy with fighters.
