The sparring stories of him flogging both Dubois and Usyk seemed to have enhanced his reputation, following on to him then becoming an avoided fighter. Brilliant performance against Anderson, like most I just want to see him get in the ring with the best and assess whether the sparring story's add up
Not seen much of him but I was very impressed with his win over Anderson. Looked a huge unit with decent power but I would like to see him in a 50/50 fight with a big Heavyweight before making a judgement.
Yes. He has a couple decent wins but he is so open defensively and his feet are so slow that any top level guy should beat him with relative ease
Who is he fighting? Because there was talk of him fighting Kabayel. But Kabayel is fighting Zhang so that’s not happening.
Bakole is a very good operator… size, work rate, pressure.. all which breaks his opponent down. Naturally though there are still question marks on how he reacts when he’s up against it based on the Michael Hunter fight however that was a long time ago and from reading between the lines, Bakole had some issues outside of the ring prior.
"Ortiz resume doesn't back such an assessment." It backs it a hell of a lot more than Anderson's. "One could make a reasonable case he wasn't top 10 for either Wilder fight if so inclined." No reputable rankings body was "making the case", even @Mitch87 favoured a post-Wilder 1 Ortiz over Parker and Whyte. "He never beat any of his rival claimants" Jennings. But this is not the be all and end all because 1. fighters can be avoided, as Ortiz was by virtually every name up until 2018, including Povetkin by his own promoter's admission 2. Ortiz showed superior ability against several mutual opponents with other contenders/champions 3. Ortiz was unbeaten.
I was responding to the ludicrous claim that Ortiz was no more a consensus top 10 heavyweight than Anderson was. Whatever Ortiz's shortcomings, he's accomplished a lot more than Anderson: https://www.boxingforum24.com/threa...ever-hold-a-title.729004/page-2#post-23146689
He's dangerous but slow feet, questionable stamina, mentality and defensive flaws suggest that he'll be fortunate to grab a title, let alone hold it for long.
Yes I think he I a wee bit overrated. However he is also a dangerous opponent for any heavyweight in the world.
Povetkin missed out on Vitali Wilder Jennings Pulev Chisora Fury Thompson Parker Miller Kabayel Rivas Etc, etc Given he missed out on the vast majority of his contemporaries it shouldn't come as any surprise he didn't fight Ortiz either. Why make a big deal of him ducking Ortiz when he missed out on so many opponents? Likewise Joshua hasn't fought Bakole Zhang Kabayel Rivas Fury Wilder Miller Wardley Joyce Chisora Etc So it isn't exactly a surprise he didn't face Ortiz Jennings is really the only win Ortiz has that's likely better than Andersons opposition and that was years prior to facing Wilder when he was younger and closer to his prime.
Is it ducking/dodging by Kabayel?? Pulled out to fight another dangerous huge puncher... maybe made better business sense? And a gateway to a title... Bakole has nothing Kabayel needs
I don't see your point. If you believe that Anderson was just as much a consensus top 10 HW as Ortiz then you're entitled to your opinion, baseless as it is. The main difference between Ortiz and Anderson's conqueror is that when Ortiz stepped up against a contender he won in good fashion rather than getting stopped.
