Too early for Nyika. Why ruin a good prospect?

He may only have 10 pro fights but he's also already 29 yrs old, and has a long amateur career and an Olympic medalist. He's at his physical peak and if there is a time to throw him to the wolves it is now. Galal Yafai had even fewer fights but just fought Sunny Edwards who was considered a huge step up and won, I don't see if doing more step ups while eventually hoping for a title fight when Nyika's over 30 yrs old will help him that much more. Also this fight isn't going to be his only chance at a title if he does well.

He's not American so it's not like one loss to Opetaia is going to destroy his value or going to be banned to oblivion, in fact even in a loss if he shows a good fight and some promise it probably helps him raise his value.

How does it ruin him? He'll only come out better for it, and yeah, I'm expectng him to lose, but why turn down this opportunity to pad your record and protect your zero against inferior opposition?

That 'you can't afford to lose your zero' mentality is one of the biggest problems with boxing today.

It's a Riyadh Season card, so Nyika is most likely getting 10x $$ he has ever got from a single fight. So...it's a no-brainer.

They will have to be pretty wide to attract much money on Nyika.

    Actually, Nyika has a chance.

Very tough, but an upset is possible

A potentially good fight, even though Nyika lacks experience, but let's be realistic, most would agree to this kind of opportunity, he won't go backwards with a defeat, and this will be an additional experience for his career.

You don't turn down world title shots, especially ones where you've been preparing for that exact same date anyway. Nothing to lose for Nyika. Going to be a great atmosphere come fight night.

Every chance he'll come out of this with credit even if he loses

3 week camp, short notice all negatives he can turn in to positive press if he gives at least a good account of himself

The narrative will then becone"i wonder how he would have fared with a full camp? "

I think it's pretty smart and the onky5thing that can ruin him is a demolition job

That isn't what my post is about, though. If he's not ready, he can suffer a frightful beating.
