Against Joey Maxim in the sweltering heat of Yankee Stadium.

    15 rounds, at light heavyweight.

    What happens?

Jones and Robinson may have had the same speed but Roy had the KO power at this weight that Robinson did not seem to have.

    Jones via KO.

Wow, surprised at the number of people who think Maxim would be KO'ed.

Jones would beat him, he ended up very comfortable at 175 and i think Maxim is a good style for him.

It's easy to say Jones by KO without knowing how Jones would've handled that kind of heat, which is something that he never had to deal with and that no fighter really ought to.

My guess is that Jones counters and potshots his way to a points win to avoid the risk of dehydration or heatstroke. Gunning for the KO on an iron chinned fighter who lasted over 150 rounds against guys like Moore, Charles, SRR, Jersey Joe Walcott and Floyd Patterson (among others) without getting stopped would frankly be a stupid and unnecessary risk on Roy's part, and doing that would really open the door for Maxim to win much wider than it would be if Roy fights smart.

So, I go for Roy UD. If Roy guns for a stoppage, there's a good chance Maxim pulls off the upset.

If a 5 years past his best Robinson is fighting 28lbs past his best, and Jones replaces him with the same handicaps and fights a Maxim, he wins, because he outweighs Maxim by 20lbs.

Jones was naturally a much bigger man than Ray Robinson he would always have an advantage over Ray at 175.

No one thinks Jones will falter over 15 rounds in that kind of heat with Maxim chasing him?

I don't. Robinson fought Maxim at just 157 pounds. Jones blossomed into a fully fledged 175 pound express. Maxim is quite a light hitter too.

It all adds up good for Jones. I don't think he has to run much at all.

RJJ by UD. While Roy had good power he nowhere had the power of Moore, Walcott, Patterson and those guys weren´t able to KO Maxim so I doubt Jones would.

Robinson had to work very hard in that heat, harder than Jones would have. Jones paces himself beautifully and has power enough to keep Maxim respectful. Jones will win every round he contests for a wide UD.

Was Roy engaging in a pro. basketball game on the same day??? After the majority of the 12 round fights, he seemed well qualified to fight another 12 rounds. Training, conditioning, and diet is clearly advanced now days.

SRR is the yard stick when it comes to boxers. Under the same duress, RJJ may well have succombed in the very same manner a 'Sugar Ray", had RJJ been in the same era.

Its very difficult to give an answer with the reasoning behind it, without dismissing the brilliance of 'Sugar Ray'...

A thousand years from now, both men will be well respected, as they are today.

I will just speculate that the Ref. suffered a heart attack in the 15th, prematurely ending the fight.

Maxim never chased Ray ,Robinson lost because he was winning handily and started showboating ,making unnessasary movements and footwork,Maxim boxed conservatively behind his jab ,and sandbagging Ray's mid section.Jones ,naturally bigger than the ex welter Robinson, would probably take the dec from Maxim ,potshotting and scoring with his faster hands but he aint koing him.imo.

    Joey Maxim would win...
(Simply because it's blasphamy to put Jones Jr's name anywhere near Robinson)
