There is nothing left for him at this point. Undisputed at two weights, beat both mobey guys twice, beat the other guy that holds a belt clearly.
He will be 38 next month with a style that requires a lot of movement and conditioning.

There is nobody left to beat, no big money fight left, no legacy investment type fight to have a floyd vs alvarez scenario.

If he continues he will eventually be shot and get beat by an inferior fighter.
This is the percect time to retire. Could have an easy handpicked opponent for a farewell fight but other than that continuing is pointless.

Knowing when to retire is underrated. We seen most boxers continue cause they needed money or couldnt let it go and they had sad endings where retiring a little earlier would have been great. Think ali vs foreman/frazier 3. Hopkins vs pascal/shumenov, mike tyson somewhere in the late 90's, Rjj after tarver 2.

There is nothing to gain yet a lot to lose. A bad ending impacts how people remember your legacy. Just think at how RJJ is rated nowadays and how he would be considered arguably the goat if he retired after tarver 2.

The thing is, he doesn't care about his legacy the way Lewis did, for example. Lewis wanted to have all the guys he's ever faced beaten, to have the last word. That's why he retired to avoid risking losing to Vitali in the rematch.

Usyk is honestly there for the pure challenge of it. Gives rematches to the most dangerous opponent's, fights in their backyards etc. He really picks the hardest thing possibile and goes for it. Doesn't care about the "0" really. He never even says he's the best, he even flat out says there are better dudes P4P.

It's a mentality level above any boxer I can think of, but it will get him beaten sooner or later, I predict.

Why would he retire when he's just started earning an average of 30 million dollars per fight?

He earned thkse vs AJ and Fury. If he fights parker next no way he makes that type of cash. Besides, he is set for life already and doesnt seen motivated by just money

Its better though to finish like lewis. Now people think of him as the best heavy since Ali.
Look at how a warrior like Holyfield is dismissed nowadays after continuing for too long.
Think how high his stock would be if he had retired after mercer 2.
Usyks stock is as high as it could be right now. He has the money, reputation and legacy and there are no big money/legacy fights left for him.

How so? They all want and motivated by money. And there's no such thing "he's set for life". I don't think he earned much for the fights he made so far.

    He can make at least:

    • $50M for AJ 3
    • $30M for Dubois 2
    • $30M for Beterbiev
    • $50M for Zhang (considering huge Chinese audience)

    fights.

And yes, he can make those money for these fights, because he's the unbeaten, very popular champion. For example, Fury was paid $30M for Whyte fight, and $25M for Chisora fight.

Usyk is not working his ass off for nothing. While we watch tv and eat pizza, he's in the gym, sparring monsters. And he risks his life and shortens his life span in every fight he makes. All for big amounts of money, along with legacy.

Yeah, this is my thinking exactly. The way Lennox Lewis stock rose post retirement by finishing on top has been very noticable to me. I love the Mike Tyson philosphy "You win the title in the ring, you lose it in the ring". It's very noble and the way it should be but Olek should do a Lewis and better yet he does it undefeated. His legacy will be epic. He's my fav fighter along with Beterbiev but it's time to retire. The money will probably dictate otherwise though unfortunately.

The Saudis will overpay him regardless of how much of a draw he is. He should fight the winner of Dubois and Parker to become undisputed twice, that will be a decent seller.

He probably should but if he is enjoying it and because he hasn't taken much damage, it will be fine for him to have a few more fights.

Winner of Parker-Dubois - hopefully its marker.

    Or Winner of Kabayel-Zhang.

Then maybe a guy like Bakole. interesting stylistic match up.

That's my point - I really don't think he cares much about reputation and stocks. What he loves is the challenge and it seems to me he's going to continue until he hits a brick wall.

I wish he did retire though. It would be better from any perspective imo, I agree with you on this.

Don’t mind that for a last fight, and it’s a winnable one

I do agree, it would be a shame if he gets knocked out by Dubois, Usyk is a all time great at this point, retire rich and retire with the 0

Yeah Ali would have had that same Marciano/Lewis mythical status if he'd retired after Thrilla in Manilla. More than either of them actually, as unlike Lewis he was never knocked out and he fought in a more stacked division than Marciano.

I agree. Id like to see Loma one last time but Usyk has nothing left to prove.

Don't understand people that say this. Why should he if he wants to fight let him fight...
