I just rewatched this fight again and i think the Briedis fight was the only real true real close fight Usyk has had in his career. The Fury fights were competitive but Usyk clearly won those fights, the Briedis fight on the other hand went down to the wire IMO.

Briedis had many good rounds in this fight landed solid clean punches and even finished stronger than Usyk in the 12th round hurting him. Usyk just about done enough by being the aggressor in the 2nd half of the fight and outworking Briedis but i could maybe see an argument for a draw for Briedis.

This is how i scored it.

    1 Briedis
    2 Even
    3 Usyk
    4 Briedis
    5 Usyk
    6 Briedis
    7 Usyk
    8 Usyk
    9 Briedis
    10 Usyk
    11 Usyk
    12 Briedis

    115-114 Usyk

Yes, I feel Breidis was unlucky not to get it given where it was fought. I thought he would get it if i'm honest.

This and the first Fury fight were his only close fights imo the rest were pretty clear decisions. Here's what I had it

    Usyk vs Briedis

    Round 1 10-9 Briedis

    Round 2 10-9 Usyk

    Round 3 10-9 Usyk

    Round 4 10-9 Briedis

    Round 5 10-9 Usyk

    Round 6 10-9 Briedis

    Round 7 10-9 Usyk

    Round 8 10-9 Usyk

    Round 9 10-9 Briedis

    Round 10 10-9 Usyk

    Round 11 10-9 Usyk

    Round 12 10-9 Usyk

    116-112 Usyk
But I can see Round 12 and Round 2 going to Briedis so a draw is possible but I don't think Briedis did enough to win

Our scoring is similar i scored the 2nd round even Breidis started the round well then Usyk had a better 2nd half but Briedis finished the round strong not alot in that round so i scored it even.

The 12th round i thought Briedis noticeably hurt Usyk in the round and i thought his punches made more of an impression so i thought he edged the round.

I agree i don't really see an argument for Briedis winning but i think a draw is very possible.

I remember having it 7-5 Usyk. The fight with Breidis is definitely the closest and most competitive fight in Usyk’s entire career, that’s for sure. Usyk edged it but he had to work hard for it. Marius Breidis was indeed a great fighter himself. I wish they fought again. I wouldn’t doubt Breidis gives Usyk another tough fight had they fought an immediate rematch.

Second round I think Usyk was better overall landed more effective punches but Breidis had his moments especially at the end but overall I don't think his work was as good as Usyk's. 12 Usky was winning the beginning of the round then got hurt and then won the rest of the round so depends on what you value but I can def see it as a Breidis round 2nd not as much.

It's his own fault, though. He squandered his prime with inactivity.

But I do agree with the thread premise. It was his closest fight if they were properly scored.

That was prime Briedis, a top echelon boxer. Was a close fight but Usyk edged it. Closer than the Fury fight.

So true Briedis was the better opponent for Usyk and one (if it's not the only) exciting fight with Usyk

Yes but let's be real just watch the fight Usyk has never been hit anywhere near the amount of flush punches as he was against Breidis that is certainly his toughest/closest fight.

Fury also said Usyk wasn't his toughest opponent do you believe that also ?

I wouldn't trust Fury to tell me grass was green. I'd trust Usyk to be honest about his opponents though.
