Was Fury already damaged goods?

Tyson Fury's own words after Wilder 3:

“I knocked him out in round 11, but it wasn’t just hunky dory and let’s all skip back to the changing rooms. I was feeling the back of my head and I had lumps on the back of my head like fists. I didn’t know if I had brain damage, I didn’t know what was up with me."

“I was very frightened because I had these massive swellings on the back of my head. I was thinking, ‘I could end up with brain damage. I was concussed, I didn’t remember anything. I suppose when you get knocked down like that you don’t remember a lot."

“I was thinking, ‘Did I get put down four times?’ I actually got put down twice."

 

When it come to Fury, the practice of apologetics has been taken to unprecedented and embarrassing levels.

He was robbed but his strategy was wrong and he clowned too much also, he’s been both too fat and too thin, he’s shot BUT he can still do it “this time”, best camps ever but extenuating external circumstances (excuses) slowly doled out after the fact of losing, etc. etc.

And they say George Foreman didn’t cope too well after he was beaten by Ali in Zaire…..

 

Usyk possibly beats him anyway. But people are deluding themselves if they think Fury wasn't at least somewhat compromised going in to these fights.

Fury went to 'Sugar Hill', which led to him taking more damage in four fights than his entire career beforehand, all for 'KO power' that didn't seem much different from before.

Wilder II. Still took RH's early on.
Wilder III. Took serious damage.
MMA fight. Took serious damage. This was only months before the Usyk fight, no way his brain recovered properly.
Usyk I. Took serious damage.

Also before that he took the near KO from Wilder in the first and had a war in the Wallin fight due to cut.

Usyk also past prime but Fury clearly more so, it's clear as day by the concussive damage he took in the fights mentioned. The fatness is on him, but still part of his age decline as well. You could also blame Fury for the damage taken, especially the MMA fight but even for his style change.

Whether you hate Fury or not, don't pretend a fighter with that much more concussive damage than Usyk is not more compromised than him in the first fight, and who comes to the ring with even more damage and now fatter than any fight in his career is not compromised in the second.

I personally think based on the fights we saw that years ago Fury could potentially have one a close one with Usyk. But he made some very dumb decisions.

 

To an extent, yes, but Usyk is older than he has and has had hundreds more combined amateur/WSB/Pro fights, so no excuses.

I think Fury got back to 80% in the first fight, but looked pretty shot in the last one. No mobility to go with the jab.

Usyk and Fury are both past their prime just look at Usyk's early Cruiserweight fights compared to now there's a considerable decline.

Usyk is the smaller man both are past their prime as I said so it should effect Usyk more being smaller as he has more to overcome with the size difference no excuses.

 

It’s always easy to say this kinda thing after a loss.

if Fury came out and blasted Usyk out in 3 rounds he would be talked about as the best British heavyweight ever.

same people never believed fury could come out and blast usyk in 3. seems them people were right about the whole thing.

Usyk is a bit past it too though.

Anyone capable enough of getting past the ridiculous Fury hype, and the denial of his decline and insufficiencies, will recognize that Usyk's stoppage win over Daniel Dubois is the much better win (even if Dubois hadn't establishment his worth at that point).

Fury hasn't looked great in years. Guys like Whyte and Wilder are from a past era now, they're almost definitely long finished as contender-level fighters. Why do people make an exception for Fury??

 

No disrespect but what you just wrote is the only thing that actually screams denial, delusion and inequitable treatment.

The excuses made by and on behalf of Fury just never stop, as I said.

Very little or no attention paid to the opposing wear/tear and ravages of age that Usyk himself has experienced.

All in all, Fury is no worse off than Usyk.

There’s also a strong case to suggest that Fury was avoiding/putting back a potential fight vs Usyk for quite some time - which Usyk said himself.

The avoidance/delaying tactics included Tyson’s election to fight an MMA guy instead of cutting to the chase and finally fighting Usyk -

I don't think he is damaged goods. I think he fell in love with this idea of “I can float around the ring like a butterfly despite looking like a fat slob”…..

I thought he looked awful on Saturday night and I knew he’d be gassed by mid rounds or even earlier. Why nobody on his team knew that I’ll never know. He was fighting Usyk who makes you work every second of every single round. Common sense tells you that you need to get into some serious condition to be able to beat him over the distance. It’s like he didn’t even try. Not sure whether it’s stupidity, arrogance or laziness.

But, that’s what makes fighters like usyk great, they put the serious work in every time.

 

He ballooned up after Klitschko. That's always been his MO.

Face it, Usyk is just better.
