toss up between srl and oscar in their pomp.
dont see anyone around on that scale. garcia is a self absorbed cheap imitation, and bud has the personality of an angry turnip.

Currently, I think it's Usyk. His kookiness is total hilarity. His calmness under pressure too is very commendable. I like his humble attitude also. I liked Kostya Tszyu, I always thought Jeff Harding had a good personality but he went off the rails after retirement apparently. Sugar Ray Leonard was very articulate and De La Hoya when still active. Oscar turned out to be a total dirt bag though.
I don't really like the over the top guys, so I haven't included Ali.

i agree about ali and about oscar. i didnt consider usyk because of the language barrier preventing more people from identifying with him. but he is obviously the life of the party. if it werent for language i would have put arguello as all time. you couldnt help liking the guy. he could disarm you with his charisma and it came off completely genuine.

Alexis was a little before my time, really. He was still fighting when I was young but he didn't get much airtime in Oz. I only saw him by trading fights with my US buddies or ESPN classic stuff. Hagler was a humble dude who I still felt had considerable charisma. Joe Bugner here in Oz could sure talk:risas3:. Fenech was fairly charismatic. I think you're right about Usyk, he's pretty well unknown here still amongst casual fans. It's really only after he beat Fury that he seemed to gain a little traction in this country which seems totally bizarre!

theres a type of charisma for every group. guys like hatton and olivares were loved for being one of the fellas. guys like camacho and paez had their audience too. but guys like the ones im considering are the type that almost everyone would be happy with them marrying into the family. the father, mother, brother and sister can all dig his vibe. of course this is when the world was still under the spell.

I've only watched Olivares fight, I'm not familiar with what his outside the ring persona was like. Camacho and Paez seemed very flamboyant. Hatton had a good personality, if I was a brit, I probably would have loved the guy. Frank Bruno another.

It's Ali and it's not even close. We're talking about an individual who was so otherworldly charismatic that it can be difficult for scholars to see the real man beneath the theatrics. Ali being turned into a vegetable is like fate getting its revenge, similar to ancient kings and conquerors who achieved too much being struck down by their gods

ruben would be out getting fall down drunk in dives with fans sometimes on fight week. he would then crush his opponent and get right back to celebrating with the people. he remained one of them the whole way through. scary how much better he could have been if he trained like a champion. his God given power was like valero.

Nobody did cool like the devil may care Ruben Olivares! Dude partied and screwed his true prime away and is still the greatest Mexican fighter ever.

Hard to look past Ali in his pomp, he was as fast with his words and wit as he was with his fists! I believe much of the reason he became "The Greatest" was because of his charisma, in addition to his obvious talents.

Very few fighters in history have transcended boxing and Ali's natural charisma was a huge part of that - he wasn't just a boxing superstar, he was a superstar full stop!

Language barrier aside, I think Usyk is a funny guy, and love him or loathe him, Fury has bags of charm.
