Are you sure "they have to go somewhere"? For me there is nothing wrong with scoring a round 10 each, but it's admittedly quite rare to see. To repeat what I said in another thread, I find it amazing three judges watched the fight and didn't score a single round as a draw. On your 2nd point, I have thought about that too. But I'd rather have a "unanimous scorecard" even though it kinda opens up other issues. My idea would be three judges who unanimously agree on the rounds score, or it is a draw. I kinda think open scoring might help too, Fury could argue he'd have fought the final rounds differently if he knew the score. And the score wouldn't be sprung on the viewer at the very end, like a nasty surprise. Taylor didn't rob Caterall to the average US viewer who'd watched Taylor scrape by on Ward's live scorecard.
Excellent post sir. Tbh this fight brings up the old question of how do you score a fight and where are the morals in the criteria for scoring fights. Like you say Usyk clearly won 5 rounds but Fury has an argument to have won 7 close rounds. Its difficult and of course subjective. I thought Fury was going to get the nod but delighted Usyk go it. I think I was also influenced being an Usyk fan so that made me deliberately give Fury 4 of the first 5 rounds to prove I am not bias lol.
Draw is probably the best case you could argue for Fury. Gut feeling on the night was that Usyk had nicked it, but that the judges were going to give it to Fury. 116-112 across the board was honestly a pretty surprising score considering the close nature of many of the rounds.
Between those threads, and Dildo Denis crying how 136lbs Demetrius the Mighty Mouse Johnson would make them tap out the same night (despite Usyk being a capable wrestler himself) it's just hilarious how many know-it-alls and narcissists are triggered by Usyk being larger than life and a decent man. Not shooting at you Juan, just using the thread to post that.
Or because Bakole hasn't done nearly enough to get a shot before people like Parker, Dubois, Zhang etc?? And got smashed by Hunter, who... Usyk beat?
And isn't the classic avoidance excuse, hmm ? "He doesn't deserve a shot" So what Bakole lost to Hunter and Usyk beat Hunter ? Since when has boxing been 1+1 = 2 ?
Materially, Usyk has now defeated Fury twice via clear margins. They were not close fights. I believe Usyk would’ve also beaten whatever version of Fury people choose to nominate as being “best”. Any which way, the best vs best outcome remains in the realm of speculation and of course that isn’t just because Fury was off peak when they finally met, Usyk was quite obviously beyond his own prime also. Also, it wasn’t Usyk avoiding/delaying the fight prior to the first encounter - that was all Fury, which tells you how Tyson felt about his chances against Usyk going some time back.
Also, 10 of the 12 rounds, Usyk out landed Fury. Fury only out landed Usyk in 1 round. I had it 8-4. Usyk, AKA Fury's papa.
Doesn't matter if the fight was close. It was Fury's turn and he had to KO or totally outclass Usyk to show his greatness Fury haven't impress anyone, even not his fans but it's not a shame against someone like Usyk
