Who is the most charismatic boxer to you?

Fury before the wlad fight was highly charismatic.
During his comeback he been kind of boring and repeating the same stuff imo.

 

I'll say Tex Cobb. Just watch his interview with Johnny Carson after the Holmes fight. Great stuff.
The man said fighting Holmes was like a high level.game of tag and after 15 rounds, he definitely knew he was it. Classic

 

Great call. Cobb was hilarious.

 

Yeah, he has followed a similar line to Ali.

Younger, fresher, more original and without the edgy malice, Fury could def. be extremely funny - I wouldn’t begrudge him that and it was good for the game.

Just as a side note, Jack Dempsey once said of young Ali - “I don’t give a damn if he can’t fight a lick, if he’s good for the game, I’m all for him.”

 

The most charismatic boxers of all time to me are Ali, SRR, Duran, Iron Mike Tyson and Azumah Nelson.

When speaking about charisma we are talking about a larger than life characters and the above mentioned all time greats had this in spades. This is more than being personable like an AJ.


Guys like Usyk, Crawford and Tank today have that aura.

The limited English of fighters like, say, Tszyu and Usyk, is charismatic in itself for me.

No extensive English vocabulary via which to BS.

Just sharp and straight to the point expressions - often to highly humorous effect.

For all Fury’s bombast, Usyk could sink him with much less wordy counters.

I think Fury still doesn’t quite understand Usyk’s “Don’t be afraid Tyson…..” comment.

The first time Usyk said it to Fury, Tyson appeared lost and responded - “I don’t even know what he means by that.”

During my lifetime: Old George Foreman

Active: No one in particular... Modern fighters are fairly inactive so unless they have a huge amount of charisma, it's easy to kind of forget about them between fights.

 

He was truly great. But others have been. Mike Tyson was great in his own way at times (telling Ruddock he had a pretty mouth was ). Tyson Fury has (prior to Usyk) been absolutely fire hilarious in press events. Jack Johnson, from the records we have, was Ali level trolling and hilarity. Old Foreman was super likable in interviews, as another example.

 

Why do you consider DLH most charismatic?

Like SRL he had a story, had hype and was mostly popular cause his looks.
But during his career atleast he was more a soft spoken decent guy that fought everyone. Atleast that was his image rather than charismatic.

With charisma you would think funny, drawing people in by their personality. Like Naseem Hamed for example.

 

I don't think Hamed necessarily had a lot of Charisma, he was an excellent showman.

I think to have charisma is to be well liked and respected by your down to earth personality and ability to connect with people.

ODLH was one of the first cross over stars because he knew how to connect with Latinos and Americans.

 

I don't know all time, but there are some pretty big personalities in history that jump out.

You have the obvious like Cassius Clay/Muhammad Ali.

Mike Tyson was very animated post prison stint.

One of my favorites was Shannon Briggs. His Trolling was next level. LET'S GO CHAMP campaign was one of the most marketable phrases in the sport and I feel some major company should have jumped on that.

Keith Thurman, even with his lisp, is very witty and is made for TV.

Wilder, even with his weird way of messing up old bible and african parables, was a character that drew a crowd.

Tyson Fury is a marketing machine as well.
