An incredible showing of defense, footwork, lateral movement, and pure boxing from the highly underrated boxing wizard Gilberto Roman who bears a similarity in outboxing skills to his countryman Miguel Canto. Much like Canto, who was also known for his exquisite boxing finesse and rarely resorted to your typical Mexican brawling, Roman displays boxing mastery in the art of hit and not getting hit. Like watching a Mexican version of Willie Pep. I think Roman’s performance in his rematch against Sugar Baby Rojas is one of his finest moments. I only wish his first fight with Rojas was available, which is said to have been a hard fought brawl by comparison. This content is protected
Imma watch more footage of him. His resume was stacked yet he's not in the IBHOF yet(from what I see),same goes to his argentinian rival, Santos Laciar.
Roman is lovely to watch if you really enjoy watching defensive fighters with great movement. One of the best footwork in the lower weight class IMO. Very fast, elusive, and slick is Roman and he exemplifies the art of the sweet science. His fights with Santos Laciar are definitely worth checking out. First fight is a great tactical fight with some good action, second fight is the most exciting and grueling, and the third fight is Roman giving a good boxing showcase. Speaking of Laciar he’s also a fighter who is really worth watching as well and someone who is always exciting in almost every fight he’s in. It’s a honestly an insult that Roman isn’t in the IBHOF when he should have been inducted a long time ago.
Agreed on that, especially given that Watanabe is also a great fighter himself. An awesome performance and good passing of the torch. Always liked his showcase fights against Montero and Carrazo as well.
